Working to be the trusted health plan of choice.

About us

At Medica, we are committed to earning the trust of those we serve through our unwavering commitment to high quality, affordable health care. We are a nonprofit health plan that serves communities in Minnesota, Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. As a company, we empower communities by listening to their voices, learning about community needs, and devoting time and resources to help. Medica partners with the communities it serves in many ways, including the Medica Foundation, a nonprofit, charitable grant-making foundation. The Medica Foundation largely funds community-based programs and initiatives that provide sustainable, measurable improvements in the availability, access, equity and quality of health care. In 2021, we formed a joint venture with SSM Health, and through that invested in Dean Health Plan. Medica and Dean Health Plan, both mission-driven health plans, have significant similarities in our histories, operations, cultures, and deep community commitment. Our new relationship is driven by technology, a mission driven vision, and innovation. Together we have an even greater opportunity to support the health care needs of members and patients, and to further enhance our provider relationships. Our Omaha team Sarah Podany, MBA, Jeni Alm, Pat Hoefener, Tom Gilsdorf and Desiree Adams and a whole host of others hosted their CWS appreciation event for the 3rd year in a row! We had approximately 200 customers, broker partners, provider partners, and prospects join us for an afternoon of networking and celebrating our partnerships, and the excitement of CWS. Medica recognized Juneteenth for the first time this year as a company holiday--there has a been a lot of hard and meaningful work to get to this point from our Employee Resource Groups and the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) team led by Rose Judkins and Laterrica Moore, CAPSW. Rose Judkins attended the Soul of the Southside Juneteenth Festival this past Wednesday to recognize the meaning behind the day.

You sure do find the most interesting items along the side of a highway! Yesterday a team from Medica volunteered their time doing a spring Adopt-A-Highway clean-up. One colleague found a kitten (alive and well) and reached out to local authorities who contacted a local animal shelter for it to be taken to and cleaned up. Then our crew found a social security card, intact--that was taken to a local DVS to hopefully get back to the owner. The team thought…what’s next, a bag filled with 💰 ? Alas, they found a $1 bill 💵-- a few laughs and some team bonding made for a good Tuesday! #MedicaInTheCommunity #VolunteerTimeOff #TeamBonding
