Helping San Francisco seniors live with dignity and independence since 1970.
About us
Meals on Wheels San Francisco is committed to the belief that all seniors have the right to live independently with dignity and respect in their own homes for as long as it is safely possible. It is our mission to provide isolated homebound seniors in San Francisco with nutritious meals, daily friendly visitors, and supportive services to prevent their premature institutionalization. This year, Meals on Wheels will deliver more than 2 million meals to homebound seniors throughout San Francisco. In addition to meals and frequent visits from our drivers, our clients receive full support from our social work team, our nutritionists, and an active base of volunteers who attempt to reduce isolation through friendly visits, helping with shopping and other chores. Meals on Wheels provides much more than a meal…we nourish the whole person.

We received a touching voicemail this morning from one of our long-time recipients in SF who has been enjoying our meals since 2005. To celebrate his 81st birthday, we delivered a special package of homemade oatmeal raisin cookies along with his hot meal. 🎉 His call meant the world to us as he expressed his gratitude for the gesture and how much it brightened his day. Every day, we deliver hot meals to approximately 160 seniors in SF who are unable to safely prepare or heat their meals. It's more than just food—it's about making a difference in their lives. Thank you for supporting us in spreading joy and nourishment to our community! ❤️ https://brnw.ch/21wLfiE #SeniorSupport #CommunityLove #MealDelivery #MoreThanaMeal

🎉 Celebrating Our LGBTQ Seniors During Pride! 🌈 Dennis has received home-delivered meals from Meals on Wheels since 2009 and credits the service as a lifeline. Due to his physical limitations, he is unable to stand or cook for long periods. Meals on Wheels has not only provided him with nourishment but also the independence to stay connected and participate in his community as a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence. Affectionately known as Sister Dana Van Iquity, Dennis expresses his appreciation for the LGBTQ community in San Francisco, despite facing challenges such as gentrification and the growing tech industry. He believes that the city remains progressive, loving, and inclusive. San Francisco has always been a hub for activism, and Dennis is grateful to continue supporting the LGBTQ community through his writing, events, and ongoing work with the Sisters. 🌈 He acknowledges the city for its continuous embrace of diversity and dedication to advocating for equality. 🙌 💕 https://www.MOWSF.org #MoreThanAMeal #SFPride #Community

Honoring our LGBTQ Community of Seniors!🌈 According to Alfred, being a gay man was much more difficult 20-30 years ago compared to the present time. During that period, the Jackson, Tennessee native struggled to fully understand and accept his sexuality. He faced discrimination in the military and from medical professionals. Nevertheless, living in San Francisco, particularly in the Castro district for almost two decades, has brought him immense happiness and a sense of belonging. He finds solace and joy through music, dancing, and using his talents to spread joy to others. 💃🎶 In 2008, Alfred's health started to decline. He underwent hip replacement surgery following a fall and also battled with high cholesterol, mild chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, two more hip operations, and prostate surgery. In recent years, he has also been diagnosed with diabetes. 😔❤️ In the same year, he began receiving Meals on Wheels and finds the service to be even more valuable in recent years as he is unable to cook for himself and shop for groceries. 🙏🍴 Alfred takes pride in his identity as a gay man, loves the Castro district, and his Meals on Wheels! 💕 https://www.MOWSF.org #MoreThanAMeal #Community #SanFrancisco #GayPride

The MIND Diet is a combination of the DASH Diet and Mediterranean Diet, specifically designed to protect brain integrity and prevent decline in mental processes, particularly targeting Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. This diet encourages whole foods and limits the intake of sodium, sugars, and other additives commonly found in processed and packaged foods. The Mediterranean influence also promotes the consumption of healthy fats, which have been linked to improved heart health and reduced inflammation in the body. Did you know research suggests individuals can reduce their risk Alzheimer’s disease by as much as 53% when they consistently follow the MIND diet?
