Today is World Day Against Trafficking. 🦋👐 With the help of Redefining Refuge's All Hands on Deck initiative, we are raising awareness about the human trafficking crisis in our community. Florida is one of the leading states for reported allegations to the human trafficking hotline. By educating ourselves and others, we can better recognize signs and report suspicious activity. McKibbon Equities has purchased Courtyard Atlanta Buford Mall of Georgia. The 110-key property northwest of Atlanta was purchased from an affiliate of Hotel Equities and represents the second portfolio investment for McKibbon Income Fund I, a real estate investment fund focused on acquiring existing select-service and extended-stay hotels. McKibbon will renovate all guest rooms and public spaces, which will be carried out by McKibbon Places, the company’s construction and renovation vertical. McKibbon Hospitality, which currently has more than 100 hotels in its portfolio, will operate the property. “We’re excited to be expanding our footprint in the Atlanta area with the purchase of Courtyard Atlanta Buford Mall of Georgia,” said Matthew Ram, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions. “It’s been a challenging transaction market over the last few years and we are pleased to have acquired a high quality newer-vintage Courtyard at an attractive basis.”

Thank you to Tampa Bay Business & Wealth Magazine for featuring John and J.B. (John McKibbon IV) in your June issue. The history and evolution of McKibbon companies over generations is an inspiring story to share and you did it well. “We’re building that foundation for the next cycle of growth and ultimately, we have to be patient and wait for the timing to take full advantage of that and be well positioned. I feel like we’re making all those smart moves and knowing that there’ll probably be a time in the cycle where a lot of projects that don’t make sense now, do make sense and we’re ready to go,” J.B. says. A lesson, one could infer, was learned from Dad, among a few others. “My dad and my grandad taught me how to be a gentleman. How to treat people right. How to mind your reputation and how you’re perceived,” J.B. says. Lessons from business, of course, are in John and J.B.’s story, but the lessons on building a family are the ones that illicit the greatest emotions in the nearly, two-hour conversation with the McKibbon men. “I feel privileged that I’ve had just an amazing role model,” J.B. says. The elder McKibbon, visibly touched by his son’s admiration, agrees and holds his son in equally high regard.
