New client alert! MCE recently made a $350K disbursement from our MESA Fund to Coopac Inclusiva, a small lending and savings cooperative operating in the rural regions of Peru since 2019. The company serves around 1,900 clients - 81% in rural areas and 63% women. Inclusiva has a strong focus on the region’s lower income population situated in the mountainous and remote areas of Peru that are often overlooked by most of the competitors in the microfinance sector. Quilmaná, the district where Inclusiva has its biggest portfolio, has a population of about 20K inhabitants, for whom Inclusiva is the only financing option. #FinancialInclusion #Microfinance #ImpactInvesting

In late June, a group of 22 MCE supporters and senior staff Camilla Nestor, Catherine Covington, Newton Nthiga and Ellie Carlson, MBA headed to Zambia to spend time with MCE portfolio companies and end stakeholders from small and growing businesses Good Nature Agro and Community Markets for Conservation, as well as microfinance institution Agora Microfinance Zambia (AMZ)! Highlights included site visits to smallholder farmers harvesting maize, soy and groundnuts as well as processing facility visits in the country’s eastern provinces. The group left with greater understanding and connection to both their fellow MCE supporters and our portfolio companies! MCE is honored to be given a shoutout in this recent article from the Stanford Social Innovation Review on the long-term impact of fixed-life foundations like Linked Foundation. We’ve been so grateful for the partnership and support from Linked over the years, led by MCE Board Member Nancy Swanson-Roberts! #FoundationGiving #ImpactInvestment
Philanthropic advisor. Gender and social impact expert. Impact investor. Writer. Sandwich caregiver.
The de facto "rules" of philanthropy have in many ways lost sight of the problems that their giving was meant to address. It's great to see people talking about trust-based philanthropy and 100% impact portfolios. But examples of these approaches in practice are still few and far between. Thrilled to share this article I co-authored with David Lehr in this quarter's Stanford Social Innovation Review that shares how Linked Foundation evolved our thinking over time to be truly catalytic and to generate lasting impact with limited funding and a fixed timeline.
