Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of enthusiastic students from Expacer's Entrepreneurship Program based in Brazil during their Silicon Valley immersion tour! It was inspiring to see their curiosity and excitement about the world of biotech. A huge shoutout to the organizers Guilherme Carvalho, Natalya Fonsêca, and Hugo Anselmo de Lima for bringing these students to our labs. Special thanks to our wonderful resident scientists, Julia Marsiglia from Acrobat Genomics and Caroline Kukolj, PhD from Switch Bioworks, fellow Brazilians who spoke to the students in Portuguese, making the experience even more exciting and engaging for them. We hope everyone had a great time celebrating the 4th of July! Last week, Switch Bioworks had the opportunity to meet Congressman Kevin Mullin. After a lab tour and short presentation about our work at Switch, we discussed amongst others: (1) Farmer-friendly carbon credits to incentivize sustainable fertilizer adoption and use; (2) Keeping scientific experts as the decision-makers for administering complex biotech laws in the wake of the Loper Bright Enterprises decision; (3) Increasing EPA/USDA staffing to help innovative products get to market faster while safeguarding human health and the environment; (4) Further federal funding for pre-commercial biotech R&D and product development -- part of the backbone of US innovation. Congressman Mullin is a San Mateo County native and is proud to be representing CA-15 in the U.S. House of Representatives, while focusing on strengthening climate resilience, and building an economy that works for everyone!
