Our CEO Jeff Erhardt wrote about how large industrial companies and the cleantech startup sector can collaborate to scale innovative decarbonization solutions more effectively for Hydrocarbon Processing. He emphasizes that both rapid innovation and scale will be necessary for the chemicals industry to hit its sustainability targets. ”Chemical industry stakeholders and cleantech startups each hold a piece of the decarbonization puzzle,” Jeff writes. “Productive collaboration between established chemical companies and agile climate startups is key to bridging this gap and accelerating the decarbonization we need to meet urgent climate goals.” Read more about how we can bridge the innovation gap in the chemical industry to drive real-world impact and meet urgent climate goals here: https://lnkd.in/eKR4Yufb #chemicalsindustry #cleantech #climatetech #decarbonization

Mattiq continues to push the frontiers of electrochemical innovation as we roll into Q4 of 2024. Last month, our Director of Chemistry, Jordan Swisher, presented at the World Chemical Forum, highlighting how electrochemical reactors are evolving beyond hydrogen production, providing pathways for new, cost-competitive alternatives to traditional processes and marking a significant step toward reducing the industry's carbon footprint and reliance on harsh chemical reagents. We've also welcomed Duane Dickson as our new Chief Commercial Officer to drive commercial growth and partnerships. Looking ahead, CEO Jeff Erhardt will join a panel at VERGE '24 by Trellis Group to discuss carbon-conscious chemistry, explore emerging solutions for reducing emissions and how the chemicals sector can accelerate its transition to low-emission technologies. Mattiq looks forward to engaging with chemical industry executives to explore how our electrochemical systems can contribute to this evolving landscape. Thank you Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS, A Dow Jones Company for hosting a great 2024 World Chemical Forum! Our Director of Chemistry, Jordan Swisher, enjoyed connecting with attendees and discussing our approach to developing electrochemical reactors to produce low-carbon #chemicals beyond green hydrogen. Thank you to Carl Roache and the event organizers for coordinating a fascinating conversation!
Driving the Decarbonization of Chemicals | Director of Chemistry at Mattiq | Electrolysis and Electrochemistry | Catalysis, Polymers, and Materials
It was an honor to speak at Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS, A Dow Jones Company’s World Chemical Forum last week, where I gave a presentation on the future of electrolyzer technologies, exploring how advancements in R&D are reducing costs and enhancing the capabilities of electrochemical reactors to produce a range of low-carbon chemicals, extending beyond green hydrogen. Thank you Carl Roache for fostering a great conversation and to the organizers of the event, who scheduled a stellar lineup of leaders who are driving the #chemicalindustry’s sustainability initiatives forward. It was exciting to connect with other chemistry executives who are developing groundbreaking solutions. If you are interested in learning more about what I discussed at the event, check out Mattiq’s website. https://mattiq.com/

Exciting News! Mattiq has been awarded a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Phase II grant for "Rapid Discovery and Optimization of Unitized Reversible Fuel Cell Catalysts." Funded by the DOE, this grant will enable us to develop bi-functional electrocatalysts capable of operating in both "electrolyzer mode" and "fuel cell mode" within a single device. This significantly expands what is possible with electrochemical reactors, providing enhanced flexibility and functionality for hydrogen technologies—and beyond! This project builds on our ongoing qualification and commercialization efforts for low-iridium catalysts, supporting our mission to decarbonize the building blocks of our world. Our September 2024 Clean Formula newsletter is out! This month, we reflect on our time at AIChE - American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Chemical Ventures Conference at mHUB, where we explored the challenges of scaling climate solutions in the chemical sector. Our discussions underscored a critical challenge in the industry: bridging the "scale gap" from lab to pilot and beyond—a topic we'll explore further in depth in the coming months. Furthermore, we have been excited to witness Chicago's rise as a hub for clean chemistry and industrial innovation, and with our recent relocation to the Fulton Labs in downtown Chicago, we look forward to increasing our impact in the region. Next, we’re headed to the World Chemical Forum in Houston, where our Director of Chemistry Jordan Swisher will discuss the broader applications of electrochemical systems beyond hydrogen. If you’ll be at the conference, please feel free to reach out directly, or attend Jordan’s presentation on September 9th at 4:20pm. Mattiq co-founder and board member Chad Mirkin recently spoke with Alex Zorn of the Chicago Business Journal. He discussed how Chicago’s growing tech ecosystem has been supported by the area’s university system and why so many startups, like Mattiq, have grown out of academic research. He explains, "I don't go after people that I think are specifically entrepreneurial. I go after people that I think are the best in their particular field, and it just turns out that in today's day and age, a good fraction of them have a good game when it comes to starting companies…From an educational standpoint, what better education than to be a part of something that you discovered that ultimately becomes a product that saves a life."
