🌟 Summer Intern Spotlight: George Martinez 🌟 Meet George Martinez, who is rounding the corner on his Construction Management degree at Sacramento State. In his free time, George enjoys attending music festivals, running, and working on his project cars. This summer, he’s working on the California Science Center project, where his favorite part is, of course, the Endeavor Space Shuttle! George loves the culture at MATT Construction, where everyone seems happy and passionate about their projects. Knowing that the California Science Center project will create lasting memories for kids inspires him to put on his MATT hardhat every day. His biggest takeaway is the critical importance of teamwork in project success, especially with a team as big as CSC. Mentors Neil Barton and Jon Ou have been incredibly influential during his internship. George has learned how to manage and review RFIs and submittals, skills he plans to use to become a successful Project Engineer one day. Fun fact: One item on George’s bucket list is to visit all 30 MLB ballparks! ⚾ If money and time were no object, he would be building and restoring classic cars. 🌟 Summer Intern Spotlight: Maddie Hayes 🌟 Meet Maddie Hayes, a rising sophomore at Colorado State University studying Construction Management. This summer, Maddie is working in the office with the Estimating department here at MATT. Her favorite part of being in Estimating is the opportunity to see and work on multiple projects. Maddie's favorite aspect of interning at MATT is the chance to work with great mentors who are understanding, knowledgeable, and patient. She is inspired by the uniqueness of MATT's projects and enjoys seeing some of the completed works. During her time here, her mentors Kenny and Hakim have been incredibly patient and instrumental in her learning process. Maddie has gained valuable insights into estimating and plans to apply this knowledge in her classes when she returns to school. This summer, Hunter is working on the West Harbor Phase 1A project, and his favorite part is how close it is to the ocean and beach. Hunter's favorite aspect of interning at MATT Construction is the kind and supportive people on the team. His biggest takeaway from this internship is realizing how much there is to learn about the construction industry. Sirelis loves the hands-on learning experience at MATT, supported by incredibly patient and knowledgeable mentors. Her biggest takeaway from this internship is understanding that every detail is crucial for smooth project execution—nothing should be assumed or taken for granted. Oscar and Kyle have been particularly influential during her time here, helping her grow and improve steadily with their guidance and support. Knowing that each day of this internship mirrors what her future career will look like inspires Sirelis to put on her MATT hardhat every day.
