We are excited to share our new brand identity. This new logo is designed to symbolize strength, endurance, and our agricultural focus. The beast of burden is an integral part of livelihood for smallholder farmers across the Global South. As such, the updated logo alludes to our unwavering commitment to the climate resilience of Global South’s farming communities. These smallholder farming communities are our partners and inspiration as we scale Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) deployments for Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). Learn more at https://www.mati.earth/

Mati Carbon is pleased to announce that we have been selected by Milkywire as a part of its Climate transformation Fund. This is a significant achievement for us as only 13 applications were selected out of 220 applications globally after rigorous vetting. We thank Robert Höglund and Team Milkywire for selecting us and putting trust in our team. We also thank Klarna, Spotify, BioGaia AB, Atomico ING Future Energy Ventures Steamery, Northzone, Planet A Ventures, Atomico and Mentimeter for taking up climate leadership and supporting us. This support is critical for us as we scale faster in the coming years. You can read more here. https://lnkd.in/g5Ck4nMA https://lnkd.in/eeyp7nbm
Big news! After an extraordinarily competitive selection process, Milkywire has chosen thirteen new carbon dioxide removal suppliers we intend to support through the Climate Transformation Fund in 2024. This year, we reviewed over 220 CDR proposals through our open call, and have chosen suppliers who are pushing the limits of current technology. CDR is crucial, but it's still in the early stages. For CDR this decade is all about figuring out which technologies are the most effective, affordable, and scalable and laying the foundation for an industry that can scale massively in the years to come. Congratulations to: Aquarry, Flux, Mati Carbon, Vycarb, Alkali Earth. Gaia Refinery, Yama (formerly Maia), Ucaneo, Carbon Atlantis, Holocene Solidaridad Network/Planboo, BIOSORRA, PyroCCS - Biochar CDR Solution. These new partnerships include ventures in new geochemical solutions such as Aquarry’s method of using mine pit lakes, novel direct air capture methods as Gaia Refineries mix of biomass removal and DAC, and very scalable biochar technologies increasing the incomes of vulnerable farmers such as in Planboo and Solidaridads project. We are excited to be the first significant buyer for many of these companies. Read about all selected suppliers here: https://lnkd.in/gvmWQtjG Basically all of these startups need more support than we currently can give them to properly try out their solutions at a relevant scale. We need you to pitch in as well. Get in touch, and we will let you know how your company can support the CDR startups in the fund with a pre-purchase or donation. The Climate Transformation Fund aims to support all types of solutions needed for global net zero, including emission reduction, and nature restoration & protection projects. For these categories our 2024 selection is still ongoing. Klarna, the founding donor to the fund, just announced that they are raising their internal carbon fee to $200 per tonne in Scope 1 and 2, while contributing $100 for emissions from business travel and $10 per tonne for the rest of Scope 3. In 2024 they will contribute over $2 million, making their total contribution to projects in the fund $7 million since 2021. The fund is also supported by companies like Spotify, BioGaia AB, Atomico and Mentimeter and has supported 30 projects worldwide since 2021. By the end of this year, we expect to have paid out more than $13 million to over 45 climate projects in total. https://lnkd.in/gvmWQtjG

Thank you ImpactAlpha and Ashish Kumar for this wonderful article discussing our work for solving the Adaptation and Resilience Funding gap for Global South.
High-quality carbon removal credits (#CDR) currently form a tiny pie (1.9%) of the ever-in-the-news ~$2bn Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM), with the #engineeredremovals being a further minuscule 0.12% of that tiny CDR pie (compared to the Nature-based CDRs). However, CDRs' demand far outstrips current supply. And is expected to dominate the future of the maturing VCM. At least that's the consensus among many of the experts. The CDR demand overall is expected to exceed supply at least through 2030, and with average CDR price is projected to hover at $200-$300/ton for several removals technologies for decades. Compare ~$200/ton to ~$7/ton price (averaged; with all-else-being-equal). Of the current average removal vs avoidance credit prices in VCM. Does that give you any new ideas? ⭐ How can we make the most of this demand-driven market dynamics for the high quality CDR credits — unlike the rest of (largely) supply-driven ~97% of the avoidance credits? ⭐And could these price-points have any role to play towards addressing the ~$300bn annual adaptation financing gap in the Global South? I'm glad to author the below ImpactAlpha piece that tries to tackle above questions and features the #AgriTech carbon removals enterprise Mati Carbon — including covering their recent announcement of being the first Global South enterprise using enhanced rock weathering (#ERW) to have actually delivered the CDR tons to their buyers at the Frontier program (Stripe, H&M, Shopify et al). Under the dynamic leadership of ex-Climate Investor and serial entrepreneur Shantanu Agarwal and an impressive team, Mati Carbon is rapidly scaling up and deploying the ERW technology that: 🌍 Sequesters (removes) carbon with >10k years permanence (among the highest of all removal technologies); 🌍 Boosts crop yields and thus income (~20-30%), as well as climate resilience for the smallholder and marginal farmers earning less than $4-$10/day; 🌍 Enhances soil health, fertility and water retention, displaces pesticides and is 'regenerative' in nature; 🌍 Is low-cost compared to other large CapEx heavy removals technologies (e.g. some Direct Air Capture applications etc.); 🌍 Has diverse and wide applicability to various climatic regions and crop value chains across the Global South and Global North. Drop a comment or DM to further discuss market-based disruptive approaches to tackle the massive adaptation and resilience (#A&R) financing gap. Thank you Jessica and ImpactAlpha for helping put up this piece.
