About us
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health prevents illness, injury, and premature death, assures access to high quality public health and health care services, and promotes wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. We envision a Commonwealth in which all people enjoy optimal health. Massachusetts ranks among the healthiest of states according to comparative analyses, but we face numerous challenges, including chronic and infectious disease, substance abuse, violence, preventable hospitalizations, and health disparities. We provide programs to address specific diseases and conditions and offer services to address the needs of vulnerable populations. We also develop, implement, promote, and enforce policies to assure that the conditions under which people live are most conducive to health and enable people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. This page is managed according to the DPH social media comment policy: https://www.mass.gov/policy-statement/dph-social-media-comment-policy.

The HOPE National Resource Center partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and a multi-sector committee to help create a positive and adverse childhood experiences (PCEs & ACEs) data dashboard. The data present a picture of childhood experiences in the state of Massachusetts and can help inform actions and policy decisions aimed at improving the health and well-being of children in Massachusetts. Lindsey Sagasta, M.S.Ed, MPH, Child and Youth Violence Prevention Epidemiologist at DPH, led the creation of the dashboard. Read our interview with Sagasta: https://lnkd.in/e9RRTRJG

Commissioner Heiple, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator Cash, Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) Commissioner Goldstein, U.S. Congressman Seth Moulton, State Senator Brendan Crighton, Mayor Nicholson and guests spent a sunny afternoon between thunderstorms in Lynn to celebrate a $254K grant to the DPH to protect the health of beachgoers in the Commonwealth. Under the Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (#BEACH) Act, the EPA awards grants to eligible state, Tribal, and territorial applicants to help them and their local government partners monitor water quality at coastal and Great Lakes beaches. When bacteria levels are too high for safe swimming, these agencies or their local partners notify the public and post beach advisories or closings.
