"The Maryland 5 Star will take place this year in Cecil County from Oct. 17-20. This year marks the fourth year that the event has taken place at Fair Hill. There are only seven five-star-rated equestrian events in the world, with just two in the United States... Last year’s event brought close to 30,000 people to Cecil County, a 16% increase compared to the 2022 event." We're just one month away from the 2024 Maryland 5 Star in Cecil County, Maryland. Learn more about the preparations underway in this recent story from the Baltimore Business Journal. #MDSportsTourism #TEAMMaryland
"The 2024 Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill, one of the most prestigious horse eventing competitions in the world, will return to Cecil County for the fourth time next month after bringing more than $11 million in direct spending to the state last year. Jeffrey Newman, CEO of the Maryland 5 Star, said he hopes around 35,000 to 40,000 people will attend the event this year... Attendance was up more than 15% last year, largely due to an influx of visitors from outside of Maryland, and event organizers hope to build on that this year and even start drawing an international crowd." https://lnkd.in/enUrcisG

The Maryland Sports Commission is thrilled with the commitment of our non-profit arm, the Sport & Entertainment Corporation of Maryland, for the creation of the In The Community 2024 series with Kaiser Permanente, to continue the commitment to the children and communities in and around Baltimore City and Baltimore County following the unfortunate postponement of the Maryland Cycling Classic in 2024. While our sights remain set on a return in 2025, we can’t help but relish the incredible memories made over this past week, and the steadfast resolve we continue to see in Baltimoreans - and Marylanders - who live up to the creed that is: “Maryland Tough/ Baltimore Strong”. #TEAMMaryland #MDSportsTourism #MarylandToughBaltimoreStrong
As part of In The Community 2024, the Maryland Cycling Classic is proud to have partnered with Kaiser Permanente for a series of events and activations that happened around Baltimore City and Baltimore County over the past week, which will have a lasting impact on the local community. The series included partnering with Baltimore Bike Party for their August ride, a Team Bike Build with Kaiser Permanente at their Timonium location on Tuesday, with it all leading up to two separate bike & helmet donation events on Thursday at Battle Grove Elementary School in Baltimore County, and Holabird Academy in Baltimore City - each of which will be creating a brand new curriculum focused on bike safety and healthy lifestyle choices for their respective students. This series truly took a village, including working with our longtime friend Rahsaan Bahati and the Bahati Foundation, USA Cycling champ (and Maryland native/ current Towson University Freshman) Maize Wimbush, Kaiser Permanente staff, the entire staff of the Sport & Entertainment Corporation of Maryland and Maryland Sports Commission, Maroon PR, Exit10, Under Armour and so many, many, many more!! A very special THANK YOU as well to our longtime champions & supporters - Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr & Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the students and staff from Baltimore County Public Schools & Baltimore City Public Schools, broadcasting legends Lawrence Johnson & DJ Quicksilva, and last - but certainly not least - our pal, The Oriole Bird!

"From an office in the Camden Yard Warehouse, Terry Hasseltine and his team are perched atop premier portfolio assets of two professional sports stadiums. But the reach of the Maryland Sports Commission and its nonprofit arm stretch beyond sporting events and those properties. Working with partners, the commission helps to bring large entertainment events that serve Maryland’s economy, from the shore to the mountains. And in the process, the agency establishes legacy programs that help kids on and off the field." Maryland Sports Commission Executive Director Terry Hasseltine, STS sits down for a one-on-one chat with the Baltimore Business Journal. #MDSportsTourism #TEAMMaryland
