Today we celebrated Manufacturing Day at the Marlen Riverside plant by inviting students from Park Hill South High School and Northland Career Center to tour our Riverside plant and learn more about what we do. It was great to highlight the benefits of a job in manufacturing while promoting all the great skills needed to make our equipment.   We also celebrated our team members with commemorative Manufacturing Day t-shirts and lunch courtesy of the Melt Food Truck! It was the perfect day for a great outside break.   #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

We visited our engineering department and spoke with Marcus about why he chose to work in Manufacturing. He said it’s a “good industry to get into and stay in due to the stability.” Marcus got into Manufacturing because he was “referred to Marlen by a friend (and now colleague) and it seemed like something I wanted to do.” Marcus’ advice to someone interested in manufacturing is it “=doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing it; you’re always going to be learning something.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

We had a quick chat this week with Marquis on the Marlen receiving team and asked him why he liked working in Manufacturing; especially shipping/receiving. He said, “I like that it’s never the same; something is always coming in, something is always going out. Somebody always needs something; there is always a due date. All of that keeps it from being boring.” We asked what advice he would give someone who is thinking of a career in Manufacturing, Maquis’ advice was “If you are a problem solver, you should come into Manufacturing. Ideas are always needed.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

As we start wrapping up discussing Manufacturing Day with our team members, we chatted with Mike in Assembly regarding what he likes about working in Manufacturing. Mike says that in manufacturing, you “learn a lot of different trades, which I enjoy. I like to build things and see how they work; it’s even better to see them in action.” For those who are considering a career in Manufacturing, Mike says “Find your niche and go for it! Manufacturing is a good and stable industry to be in and you don’t have to worry about the weather.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

One of our electrical assembly team members, Delaney was asked why she chose Manufacturing. She said “I didn’t want a desk job and I always knew I was more mechanically inclined. I chose the electrical field in college and really enjoyed it and it stuck.” Her advice to someone looking to get into Manufacturing is to “be ready for the challenges; things are always changing. It’s not straightforward. Your brain is always working.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

It’s also stable” CJ enjoys the fact that he is always on the move; there is always something to do. During a busy time of year, we were able to steal a couple of minutes with Andy in assembly and ask a few questions about Manufacturing. When asked what he liked about Manufacturing at Marlen, Andy said, “I enjoy the teamwork in Manufacturing. Together as a team, we build equipment that produces the products we see in the grocery store.” And if you are considering a career in manufacturing, Andy says “If you like to work with your hands and mind, it’s an excellent career choice. In our type of manufacturing, you don’t do the same thing day in and day out so you won’t get bored.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

We were able to catch up with Stacey in our Production Control office about her experience in Manufacturing. According to Stacey, “Manufacturing chose me; I was desperately looking for a job after returning to the US and was referred to Marlen.” While it wasn’t a profession she consciously chose, Stacey says she “enjoys working in manufacturing because of the people and you get to see something being made. My knowledge has grown in areas I never imagined; I’m able to talk parts and tools with my husband because of the exposure I’ve received from where I work.” Stacey admits it’s not all roses; there are challenges as well. But, if you are considering a career in manufacturing, she says “Don’t look down on it! There are a lot of intelligent people working in blue-collar jobs and manufacturing. Without manufacturing companies like Marlen, we wouldn’t have equipment that helps feed the world.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

We’re featuring another of our team members for Manufacturing Day. Carmen works in our accounting department. She enjoys that Manufacturing is “ever-evolving, always changing, there’s new stuff coming in all the time so it’s not just a one-box type of industry. And there are lots of different types of Manufacturing which allows for a lot of growth and knowledge; there is always something to learn.” If someone wants to get into Manufacturing, Carmen says they should know that they “are never going to be bored. You’ll constantly be learning new things and the possibilities of where a career can take you is endless and can take you anywhere.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment

Manufacturing Day is a day to celebrate all things Manufacturing and this year, it falls on Friday, October 4. This week, in observation of Manufacturing Day, we’re highlighting the diverse roles that makeup Marlen. To get us started, we chatted with Brandon, a member of our assembly team, about why he likes working in Manufacturing. Brandon said, “I’ve always been good at putting things together and couldn’t see myself doing anything else.” Before coming to Marlen, Brandon worked on an assembly line. He said he likes what he does at Marlen because “it’s a lot more custom work; it’s not just doing one thing all day.” #MFGDay24 #foodprocessingequipment
