Great news in the field of cancer immunotherapy 🧬: researchers have engineered bacteria as personalised cancer vaccines. They activate the immune system to seek out and destroy cancer cells. What a time to be alive! I wonder if this technology can be life-changing for people with rare genetic disorders - like Li-Fraumeni syndrome, the one when humans are born with a broken gene that supresses the growth of cancer cells. As a result, they can develop cancer multiple times during their life (some patients had it 15 times!) all around the body. https://lnkd.in/eREf2iy5

How the universe will die? 👹 What is dark matter? Was there a bang 💥 during Big Bang? Why physics has so many 𝗕𝗜𝗚 questions and contradictions? It was my pleasure to talk with James Beacham, a CERN particle physicist, speaker, storyteller and hunter for gravitons, quantum black holes, dark photons and other amazing phenomenons. It was such a great conversation that I had to split it on two parts - one is about death of the universe and the second one is about time travel! This is an teaser of the episode of Renegade Science podcast that will be released soon ❤️

Marabou is now officially listed on the Berlin Web3 Ecosystem Map! 🌟
We released the first Berlin Web3 Ecosystem Map today. This map brings together all the projects working on meaningful ideas in the vibrant capital city. I want to highlight those who have been shaping w3.hub with us since day one, where some of these companies either have a physical presence or host their events: 🤍 A big shoutout to Celestia Labs, Binary Builders, Superteam Germany, and VOYA Games ⛓️ Ledger (especially June Holderith) for pushing the space forward and participating in lots of our content pieces 🪄 Evmos, who have joined our beautiful space just recently 🧪 M^0 Labs, who are also joining soon 💡 Tokenize.it it and Mast-Jägermeister SE 👋🏽 The entire Bitcoin community that regularly organizes conferences and workshops ✨ Coinbase and Cardano Foundation, who are also often present here! Let’s not forget the incredible amount of people who represent a company by themselves, because their team is so deentralized. Additionally, companies like Gnosis , Centrifuge, Parity Technologies, Celo Foundation, Lisk, Molecule AG , LUKSO, IOTA , Algorand Technologies, BerChain, VitaDAO, and the crypto girls club are shaping the Berlin ecosystem. You can download the latest version from our website. If you think someone is missing, feel free to let me know in the comments!

I came to you today... with an 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗶-𝗙i 📶. You may ask - what's revolutionary in it? A lot! Some innovations can facilitate other innovations. Modern Wi-Fi is powerful, but it has limitations - specifically its range and high energy consumption 🔋. A research team that included scientists from universities in Hong Kong, mainland China, South Korea, US, and UK, came up with a solution: they combined Wi-Fi with so called LoRa, Long Range networking protocol. ↳ New WiLo approach can run on existing hardware and software, which is brilliant. You can use standard Wi-Fi devices to communicate over long distances using LoRa without additional hardware. ↳ Research team tested WiLo both indoors and outdoors, over distances up to 𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 (!). ↳ WiLo achieved a 96 percent successful transmission rate. Downside is that the issue of high energy consumption is still not solved. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? Not only because you can forget the nightmare of moving closer to the router to get better connection. If WiLo will be widely adopted, it will enable a range of things: ↳ huge advancements in IoT ↳ smart cities ↳ agricultural sensor networks ↳ autonomous robots ↳ many more Here's the research paper that the team recently published 👇 https://lnkd.in/e3MatTca

AI requires an enormous amount of computational power 💻 One solution that is explored now is 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗜. Another one - as we discovered today - is 𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿. Google will power its AI-data centers with small modular nuclear reactors 🤯 Company just signed a deal with Kairos Power to build a first plant this decade and launch more by 2035. Generally, I find the return of interest in nuclear power to be very positive. This technology has a huge potential and that's a pity that we lost so much time not using it widely enough. https://lnkd.in/gSCaJt4r

Who owns the space 🚀? It can seem that the answer is obvious - nobody! But it's a much more complex issue. You can't (yet) own a planet 🌕, even if you arrived there first. But you can own the materials or minerals that you found or produced there. Startups that plan to mine asteroids, like AstroForge, prove that - and not only by getting major investments. Obviously, the closer we get to colonising space, the more we need to understand how property rights should work there. Here's an article with one of potential options 👀 https://lnkd.in/eP-BRyFi

What a great combination of science and gamification 👾! Scientists from UNSW Sydney developed an interactive software which helps people experiencing neuropathic pain – also known as nerve pain – as a result of spinal cord injury (SCI). Approximately 50–70% of people who have a spinal cord injury develop nerve pain in areas where 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 ✋. This results in a very intense pain which has very few treatment options. In 2014 scientists identified abnormal brain activity 🧠 in the thalamus as a key neural signature of neuropathic pain following SCI. And now they created a treatment called Painwaive. It helps patients to learn how to regulate abnormal brain activity associated with nerve pain through a game and a headset that measures it. The results look very promising, and the game is heading for clinical trials! https://lnkd.in/gjJJ6pte

Do you like superhero 🦸 movies? I do! That's why I find it so fascinating to talk with people who are already enhancing themselves. Rich Lee is a true inspiration. He is a veteran of biohacking scene, has done dozens of experiments on himself, has implants that allow to open doors or listen to the music without headphones - and in the last years he works in the field of gene therapies. What people like Rich do can seem controversial or dangerous. It is. But exactly these people, who are inventing things in the fringe, are the ones who moves the whole humanity forward. Witness the future talking in the new episode of Renegade Science podcast 🙂 https://lnkd.in/eNCJ2nGd You can also listen to the pod on Spotify https://lnkd.in/euZ8dhhf or Apple Podcasts https://lnkd.in/epSDuhAJ.

Who gains the 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 from working with AI 🤖? You may be surprised, but the answer is so logical. People with low baseline ability. Using AI, they significantly improve their performance. Funnily enough, same people are scared that AI will take their jobs 🙂 Here's a paper about this experiment 👇 https://lnkd.in/e4vG9TH9
