Flashback 59 years to when the Derrick barge NORSEMAN entered Manson's fleet. A navy-surplus derrick purchased in 1965, Manson repowered the 60-foot by 120-foot barge's original lift capacity from 60 tons to 100 tons. Since then, the NORSEMAN has worked on projects up and down the West Coast. Did you enjoy this mini Manson history lesson? Follow our page for more! Building the Nation's Waterways and Marine Infrastructure Since 1905
About us
Manson is one of the nation’s leading heavy civil marine construction and dredging companies. We take great pride in our reputation for safely completing our work on time and on budget. Established in 1905, Manson began as a small, family-owned Puget Sound marine pile driving business. Today, Manson thrives as a 100% employee-owned company with a second, third and even fourth-generation workforce. Our fleet of heavy marine construction and dredging equipment includes 60 specialized vessels and over 50 barges. Headquarters remain in Seattle, though we have expanded to include permanent facilities in Northern and Southern California, Louisiana, and Florida. Manson is committed to creating an Incident and Injury-Free® (IIF®) workplace by performing all our activities with equal attention to safety, quality, and efficiency. We demonstrate our commitment by being honest, ethical, compassionate and fair in all of our dealings with employees and customers alike. We empower and give authority to all employees to stop work anytime, any place where safety is a concern. Nothing we do is worth anyone getting hurt.

In April 2023, Manson's derrick barge SCANDIA mobilized to the Jim Clark Marina in Seattle, WA, to help salvage several vessels and lift the roof off one of the many damaged marinas hit by a commercial barge. Manson's Seattle HR and Payroll Department had front-row seats to the salvage work at the marina, which is adjacent to the Annex office. Thanks for the photo, Steve Kiel! Last month, Manson's derrick barge E.P. PAUP lifted a 596-ton deck section while racing the weather in the Gulf of Mexico. Kudos to the E.P. PAUP crew for staying safe and keeping up the good work! Photo credit: Dave McPeak—Tower Operator #construction #heavylift #marine #maritime

Earlier this week, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for Manson's Seal Beach Ammunition Pier Replacement project! The new pier, pictured here with the USS O'KANE in the background, will allow for safer and more efficient operations while supporting naval vessels. This project opened a new public navigation channel to separate U.S. Navy traffic from pleasure crafters and the construction of a new 1,500-foot pier to support the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Be on the lookout for the upcoming Summer 2024 issue of the Manson Navigator to read more about the Seal Beach Ammunition Pier Replacement project! Manson Bay Area Project Update In late June, the Stabilize Alcatraz Wharf project team and crew flew a mini clamshell bucket to help remove rubble at the drill location before drilling began. Field Engineer Jacob Kohl commented on the work: "This is a good example of thinking outside the box to make operations smoother." Kudos to Superintendent Kory Nash for suggesting the mini-clamshell bucket idea! This Alcatraz project will improve the existing concrete wharf and appurtenances, which support tourism at the national historic landmark. Crews are repairing the aging steel-cased concrete piles and beams and installing two seismic-resisting elements to upgrade the wharf to a seismic Risk Category III structure. Additional work will include removing and replacing utilities. Malcolm Drilling #marineconstruction #construction #projectupdate #engineer #marine

Seal-tastic! In May, Manson's project teams and crews had a surprise visit at the P-454 Multi-Mission Dry Dock Test Pile Program project in Bremerton, WA. The "Seal Team" monitored work activities, barked out unsolicited comments, and set seal late in the day. Seal you later! #maritime #wildlife #construction #marine
