This Saturday we’ll be once again marching at the San Diego Pride Parade🌈 We pride ourselves (no pun intended) in being part of and celebrating this paramount event for over 30 years. San Diego Pride Parade serves as an occasion to come together to celebrate the road that has been paved in support of and in solidarity with our LGBTQ community members and as a reminder of the long road we have ahead. When we keep things local, things get real peachy 🍑 California’s Stone Fruit Season is back in full swing! Starting immediately, clients will begin to receive locally sourced nectarines, peaches, and plums. In a continued effort to buy locally and support seasonality, we will provide these items to our clients throughout the local growing season. We are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to welcome Congressman Scott Peters to Mama's Kitchen! 🏛️  ✨  With this being the Congressman's first visit to our Home Avenue location, we are thrilled to show him how much we have grown and advanced since his last visit years ago. He had the opportunity to see our volunteers in action as they plated more than 900 meals and chatted about the importance of Food as Medicine in changing the lives of those with critical diagnoses. We were grateful for the conversation about the distinction between medically tailored food and simply "healthy" food and how nutrition education can be empowering, giving individuals the chance to take control of their health. We are so incredibly grateful to have policymakers like Scott Peters who bring awareness to our mission and understand the importance of our work. For June, our Peer-to-Peer Employee Recognition Award is being given to someone who has shown compassion and a strong work ethic since they started last year. This month we recognize one of our hardworking and extremely reliable Bilingual Client Services Coordinators, Verena Aguilar! It is fitting to celebrate Verena this month because it is also the month of her first anniversary at Mama’s Kitchen! As a Bilingual Client Services Coordinator, she provides caring support to our clients as they go through our programs along with many other responsibilities. Thank you to the Kura Oncology, Inc. team for being our heroes in the kitchen yesterday afternoon! Every month our need in San Diego continues to grow, and while our morning and lunchtime volunteers often work overtime to ensure our deliveries go out on time, summer vacations can leave us shorthanded. When we still needed more than 2,800 bags packed, the Kura Oncology team stepped up. They were excited to help and worked quickly to guarantee our clients would get their meals.
