EM CONVERSA PLAY(THE)GROUND roundtable UNDERSTANDING SOCIAL IMPACT < IN ENGLISH > https://lnkd.in/e7qP4ZHM 14.03.2024 at Nova SBE Ligia Fernandes and Nicole Sánchez talked to Carla Fernandes and Raquel Martins. In the last event of the PLACES OF (IM)PERMANENCE program we will invited guests for an open discussion to reflect upon the idea of social impact, understanding how can we develop projects considering its impact on different levels. This initiative was relevant for anyone who wishes to understand the processes or to be involved in a project or business, taking in consideration that social impact can be a feature of any project. Carla Fernandes is the Principal Investigator - BlackBox Lab and Head of Research Group Performance & Cognition ICNOVA FCSH. Her research focus is in the intersection of Linguistics, Cognition, Gesture Studies and the Performing Arts (from cognitive and ethnographic perspectives). Carla has been involved in a series of projects in Trafaria, with the aim to revive, document and jointly preserve memories and social activities from Trafaria's intangible heritage (which is at great risk of being lost), creating new living histories and preserving most of them with the collaboration of the different communities and stakeholders involved. @contosdatrafaria Raquel Martins has been working in television, advertising and in a broader sense in communication for over thirty years. 15 years ago she founded @help_images and dedicated to the production of communication products for the 3rd sector. She had the opportunity to work with many organizations, with very different people and projects and in very different regions of the planet. Above all, this work allows her to be part of a human movement that works towards a better world, and having the privilege of hearing a good life story! The documentary ⁠“Os herdeiros do bairro/The heirs”⁠, by help images, focuses on documenting the lives of the former inhabitants of the, already demolished, self-built neighborhood of 6 de Maio. The documentary gained world recognition by winning excellence and merit awards at the Impact DOCS Awards of 2020, from the Global Film Awards (GFA) (USA).

We invited to the roundtable reasearchers with the focus on migration, the neighborhoods of Talude and Quinta da Fonte and local representatives of AMRT. In this roundtable we discussed about the trajectories of immigration and gentrification in the city of Lisbon and its implications in the life, economy, identity, opportunities and creativities on local communities with a special focus of African migration. The topic is Informality as resistance and we will welcome artists of different disciplines to develop projects with the communities. Através deste padrão, explorámos a possibilidade de modernizar as nossas obras, respeitando sempre a tradição. A todos fica o convite, para virem celebrar connosco e descobrir a arte do Bojagui! Bojagui é uma peça de tecido normalmente utilizado para embrulhar, guardar e/ou transportar artigos de uso diário ou cerimónia, feito com o que sobrava da confecção de roupas. PLAY(THE)UNDERGROUND /// GREG HANNAN FIGURES IN FLUX 23.05. - 28.05 Metrostation Picoas /// EN On the 23. of May Greg Hannan will came to our space in the Picoas Underground. He set up an exhibition of his current painting and he was working on new painting during his stay. GREG HANNAN Greg Hannan is a British painter. His work orbits the human figure with elements of surrealism and abstraction fuelling explorations that return to that subject with fresh discoveries. He works primarily in acrylic paint, mixing in other media, often spurred by the irrepressible urge to draw with something that resembles a stick. FIGURES IN FLUX exhibition The paintings in this exhibition are exploring the figure and what it is capable of. People and objects merge and morph, finding new compositions inside and outside of their usual bounds. New connections are prized. Hearts gaze at limbs, eyes speak to bones, flesh glides through walls. We find a stomach wandering the body, searching for a new purpose. In breaking down individuals, groups and things, I allow them to recombine in startling new processes. I want to raise hopeful questions about limits and purpose. I want to loosen the identities we see around us so that they begin to decompose and recompose in a multitude of new connections. /// PT GREG HANNAN Greg Hannan é um pintor britânico. O seu trabalho gira em torno da figura humana com elementos de surrealismo e abstração, alimentando explorações que regressam a esse tema com novas descobertas. A multimedia artist whose work is a dialogue that reveals (dis)connections between nature and the urban, she graduated in Architecture from USP in 1983. Her career as a visual artist began in 1984, and since then she has exhibited her work in various exhibitions, winning several awards. From ‘Poetic Encounters’ Casa das Rosas, 2005 Assemblage / Poetry, incorporates poetry and the word in plastic productions. The work is a dialogue that reveals (dis)Connections between Nature and the Urban, 2024 participates in the exhibition ‘Lines that weave Poetic Landscapes’ at UMAPAZ, São Paulo. Inspired by the daily experience of walking, being in the world and being aware of its existence. To make the poems accessible outside of the space and time dimension of the past month, on Saturday 18th there will be the opening of the exhibition where you can come and read all the poems, collective and individual, that were presented by various poets on the 19.04 and developed on the walls during the time of the project.
