Providing access and resources to help young women attend Chicago-area Catholic high schools
About us
The Madonna Foundation, established in 2001 by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, is a public charity that increases access for young women to attend Catholic high schools in the Chicago area. The Foundation is the only one of its kind in the region focusing exclusively on serving young women with scholarship support and programing. The Madonna Foundation annually awards tuition grants to young women who demonstrate financial need and the potential for academic achievement. Financial support averages $2,700 per year. In many cases, without the Foundation’s scholarships, these young women would not be able to attend Catholic school. In addition to tuition grants, the Foundation provides college and career readiness seminars, leadership and empowerment workshops, spiritual retreats, service-learning opportunities, and one-on-one tutoring support through a variety of dynamic and innovative programs. Our programing provides young women the tools necessary to have a well-rounded education and success in high school, college and their careers. Our scholars build meaningful, productive and successful lives and will be the next generation of educated and compassionate leaders. The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago formed The Madonna Foundation to carry on their legacy of educating young women in the Catholic tradition of excellence. The Foundation educates the whole person by instilling the Franciscan values of Respect, Dedication, Stewardship and Joy.

The Madonna Foundation was thrilled to host our first-ever freshman orientation on our campus in Lemont. The Class of 2028 spent the day learning about the history of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, Madonna High School, and the Foundation. Our Chief Mission Integration and Pastoral Care Officer, Dawn Mayer, provided our scholars with a fun and impactful experience. We got to have lunch with some of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago and our President & CEO of Franciscan Ministries, Regina Umanskiy. They shared words of encouragement with our new scholars. The entire day was amazing and we are grateful!

We are called to help impact the lives of many by continuing the work of our Foundress, Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik. Through her charism, wisdom, and unrelenting courage, she built a foundation for helping others. And we bring that charism, wisdom and courage forward with our culture of Living Joyfully and our Mission of Celebrate Life and Serve with Joy.

In collaboration with the Madonna Foundation our Sustainable Engineering Studio hosted a group of young women from a few Chicago high schools to talk about careers in the building design industry. We were so inspired by their ingenuity and positive energy, what an honor to have had the opportunity to share our own stories and career paths with them! A big Thank You to our environmental designers Kristina Lundeen, Elizabeth Saliba, Hailey Washington and Natalia Quintanilla for taking us on their personal journey and showing us what a creative mind can achieve when it applies science.

So proud of Madonna Scholar, Bertha, and all of the young women pursuing STEM opportunities!
Engineering Principles students Eliza Sweeney '25 , Jia Kamin '24, and Bertha Espinoza '24 (left to right) participated in the Illinois Tech Regional Bridge Contest last night. All three students finished in the top 10 (7th, 6th, and 4th place respectively). Way to go, Macs!
