Even though our time on the largest greenfield project investment in Canada has come to a close, I wanted to give a shout out to everyone involved on Phase 1 of the LNG Canada Project. LW Survey were the lead dimensional control surveyor on the project via Fluor/JGC and we developed a single weld hook-up program for the client since its inception. The modules were fabricated at the COOEC, PJOE, and CFHI fab yards in China as well as BHGE’s yard in Avenza, Italy. From these fab yards the modules were shipped directly to the project site in Kitimat, B.C. via barge. All-in-all we had around 4,400 single weld hook-up pipe connections from module to module on the project with the largest pipe connections being over 72” stainless steel. Our single weld hook-up program boasted a 100% success rate and we saved the clients a fortune in hydrostatic testing. The challenges for the project were operating across 5 international sites and dealing with unprecedented shutdowns during the Covid Pandemic, temperature/thermal corrections between mod yards and the oftentimes frozen project site and having to deal with fluctuations in labor from skilled trades during the longevity of the project.
