This is spot on: "When elected officials come together to align on common goals and collaborate across differences, we can accomplish A LOT!" ✨Together, we are indeed stronger. Together, we can make our region a place where everyone thrives. Well done, Rob Saka, Esq., LT'18!👏🏽 #TogetherWeThrive #LTAlumni

Seattle City Councilmember | Chair, Transportation Committee | Lawyer | Air Force Veteran | Unapologetic “King of Potholes”

I wanted to share a special moment and a few learnings with you all…   Last week, after months of meticulous deliberations and collaboration, the Seattle City Council UNANIMOUSLY approved a $1.55 Billon transportation levy package. It was signed by Mayor Bruce Harrell the very next day! Now voters will get to decide whether to approve it on the ballot in November.   As Chair of our City’s Transportation Committee, I was responsible for overseeing legislative review of the levy process end-to-end. Through this experience I learned:   ✅ Democracy is messy but it works. At a moment in our country when divisions reign supreme, let this be a civics and political lesson: when elected officials come together to align on common goals and collaborate across differences, we can accomplish A LOT! #bettertogether   ✅ Harmony is possible. Where some might focus on obvious tension in complex and technical workstreams, such as our transportation policy decisions, it is possible to drive an effective, collaborative process that balances competing priorities and interests. (Note: this does require EXTRA work.) 🤝💪   ✅ Bold basics matter. Regardless of the strategic importance or value of an effort, don’t hesitate to dive deep into the details. Through collaboration, compromise, and painstaking attention to detail, we reached a consensus levy that delivers the everyday basics in an extraordinary way. 🛣️🚎🚴🚶🚗♿️🚚   ✅ Praise and ‘credit’ are not finite resources. They should be applied liberally and often for the contributions of others. Avoid a scarcity mindset, especially here! 🏆

Founder of 7 Forms of Respect and CEO of CuriosityBased | Bestselling Author | TEDx Speaker | Award-winning Community Leader

I just shared the 7 Forms of Respect with my biggest in-person and virtual audience yet over 2000 people combined at the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). I never imagined I would be speaking from the stage of New York’s biggest hotel, in the heart of Time Square. To this audience of administrative professionals, I started my talk with, “I can feel the power and influence in this room. And even though you may not always get the respect you deserve because of your job title, I know people with big fancy titles trust you, and turn to you for advice and guidance.“ When I polled people on their takeaways from my talk, many commented on getting to meet new friends because of the interactive exercises I included. Success! Regardless of whether my audience learns anything new from me, I always strive to create a space that allows people to connect. To IAAP members, I know how powerful and influential you are. I hope my message that respect is relative resonates with you and that you’ll spread the word. I’m so grateful for Rachel Suman [she/her/hers] for inviting me to speak and Christi Jones, CAP for making the experience so smooth, and my CuriosityBased colleagues especially Lourdes Tsukada for your support and Lori Williams Velez for your input. Thank you Julie Knoth, CAP, OM, BW, HR Shalita W. Debra Bullis, CAP, HR, BW, OM Layla Taylor Brandi Montreuil Leslie C. Piester Cris Miller, CAP, MEP Lynn Elm JoAnn Penaranda for connecting! #respect #curiosity

🎓 Celebrating the Leadership Tomorrow Class of 2024 🌟 Congratulations to the Leadership Tomorrow Class of 2024 on your recent graduation! For the past 10 months, you practiced curiosity, leaned into the zone of productive disequilibrium, and built lifelong relationships that will help you drive change in our community. Here’s what a few graduates said about their LT experience: “Through this program, I learned the value of mindfulness and presence in leadership. This experience highlighted the power of direct engagement and building authentic relationships, showing that tough conversations become more approachable when we recognize our shared humanity.” -Jamshid Bayandor, LT’24, Jacobs   “Over this past year I’ve developed better language to describe my leadership values and style, grown in my understanding of the multifaceted issues facing our communities, and built true relationships with the most incredible group of BIPOC professionals I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of.” -Cindil Redick-Ponte, LT’24, Washington State Department of Health   “Starting LT, one of my goals was to challenge my understanding of how to bring along those who may not share the same perspective as I have on equity. Through conversations with the IPOC caucus and my women of color colleagues, I feel refreshed and energized to continue tackling this issue professionally and personally. Most of all, I value all the connections we’ve made this year and look forward to growing our relationships in the years to come! -Angela Bahng, LT’24, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Cheers to the LT’24 cohort—your future is bright, and your potential is limitless! 🌟

✨Engaged leadership is the foundation of thriving communities. ✨ For 40 years, Leadership Tomorrow has worked at the forefront of civic engagement to cultivate a network of inclusive, courageous, and curious leaders across Puget Sound. As we celebrate this special milestone, we are proud to highlight stories from LT alumni who continue to shape our region into a vibrant, vital community where all can thrive. For our eighth story, we are pleased to feature Michaela Geronima Doelman, LT’22. Here’s how LT expanded Michaela’s already strong understanding of our region’s challenges and opportunities: "LT helped me see how important it is to listen to the community most impacted by challenges as the one with the best insights into future opportunities that will work. I also developed a greater understanding for why partnerships between public, private, and nonprofit sectors are vital for addressing big problems like affordable housing, environmental justice, and public safety. LT helped me grow from a baseline theoretical understanding of problems and opportunities, exposed me to people who shared lived experiences, impacts and successes, and ignited a curiosity in me to stay involved at the community and government levels to make impact." 🎉Read Michaela's inspiring story here: https://lnkd.in/ghPARZ6f Don't forget to register for our 40th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser so you can enjoy more inspiring stories like this! 🎟 Secure your spot for LT’s biggest event of the decade ➡ https://lnkd.in/g3Ms6usj
