Student #spotlight ⭐ Meet Shray Shine, a senior majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Business Administration. Starting as a premed student, Shray's interests shifted to healthcare administration after discovering his passion for the systems and strategies behind healthcare delivery. This summer, Shray completed a hospital administration internship, gaining hands-on experience in various departments. From analyzing workflow processes and improving patient discharge procedures to strategic planning initiatives, he saw firsthand how every part of a hospital plays a critical role in patient care. "It transformed the way I view healthcare," Shray shares. "Running a hospital is much like running any large organization, with the added challenge of balancing care quality with financial sustainability." Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Shray is passionate about fitness. Whether it is hitting the gym, hiking, or running, staying active is his favorite way to challenge himself both physically and mentally. His advice to fellow students? "Explore all areas of healthcare. There are many ways to make an impact beyond clinical roles." #geauxscience @lsu

    Congratulations, Joshua! 👏

#LSUChemistry graduate student Joshua Beane was awarded a travel grant and an invitation to present his research at the Biophysics Fellows Research Conference, held at the NIH National Headquarters in Maryland in March 2025. Joshua conducts research in the laboratory of Prof. fatima rivas, focusing on the mitochondrial heat shock protein TRAP-1, a promising target for treating various metabolic diseases, including cancer. His research involves using computer-aided drug design to develop a library of TRAP-1 inhibitors, aiming to improve their therapeutic index and selectivity over the cytosolic isoform. The inhibitors have shown potential as hit compounds in several cancer cell models. Way to Geaux, Joshua!

A recent paper by Daniel Babayode, Stena Peterson, and Prof. Louis Haber published in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘴 reports the 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘶 growth dynamics of colloidal silver–gold core–shell (Ag@Au CS) nanoparticles (NPs) using time-dependent second harmonic generation (SHG) and extinction spectroscopy. The study also monitored two-photon fluorescence during the CS growth, showing complementary information for comparisons to the extinction and SHG results. By utilizing 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘶 SHG spectroscopy, extinction spectroscopy, and Mie theory simulations, the study offers a comprehensive analysis of the complex growth dynamics at the nanoscale, contributing to the development of optimized plasmonic nanomaterials.
