Ahead of the storm, our dedicated Municipal Services team members, who are embedded in and staff Tucker's, Dunwoody's, and Brookhaven's Public Works Departments and Water Resources team, met on Wednesday and Thursday to proactively plan for Hurricane Helene’s arrival. With historic rainfall—over 10 inches in less than 48 hours—we're proud to report minimal flooding in Dunwoody, Tucker, and Brookhaven, thanks to our stormwater and management crews' ongoing maintenance and rehabilitation efforts! Our on-call teams swiftly took action, conducting real-time and after-hours initial assessments, setting up barricades and notifying residents, coordinating with public utilities and first responders when necessary, removing fallen trees from rights-of-way, responding to isolated flood complaints and stormwater issues, and street sweeping for continued safety. They also kept community leadership informed and up to date with ongoing storm response. Lowe also provided staff to Brookhaven's Emergency Operations Center, who played a vital role helping coordinate response Crews remain on emergency response duty, ensuring the community stays safe and protected. We have the pleasure of working with local police and other emergency responders during these extreme weather events. We focus on keeping roads operational and storm drains functioning. Happy IT Professionals Day! 🎉 Today, we're shining a spotlight on our fantastic team member, Shayon Haughton! Shayon provides daily IT support by assisting users with their technical needs and troubleshooting issues. From hardware and software installations to performing system updates, managing user accounts, and handling new hire setups, he ensures our systems run smoothly so everyone can be productive. How Shayon Got Into IT: After high school, Shayon began his career as a recording engineer, which gave him a deep understanding of both Windows and macOS environments. This hands-on experience sparked his interest in technology. He decided to pursue IT more seriously by building his own PCs and earning a degree in Information Systems to enhance his technical knowledge and skills. His Hobbies: When he's not keeping our tech running, Shayon enjoys creating new music, expanding his professional network, and is starting to get more into traveling. Adventurous at heart, he loves participating in outdoor activities. Happy IT Professionals Day! 🎉 Today, we're shining a spotlight on our incredible Director of IT, Linda Messing! "Our job as a department is to support all the users at Lowe Engineers, taking care of all their IT needs. We make sure they can do their jobs without worrying about the tools they use," says Linda. Linda's journey into IT began unexpectedly in 1995 when she answered a job ad for a bookkeeper at a computer company. As the company consolidated, she discovered her passion for computers while handling everything alongside a small team. Originally from Missouri, Linda has called the Atlanta area home for over 30 years. She's a proud mother of two and grandmother of two. When she's not keeping our IT infrastructure running smoothly, you can find her line dancing four nights a week—she's even a certified instructor! 🕺 Though retired from ice hockey, Linda still laces up her skates whenever she gets the chance. Family time is paramount; she's often at the softball field cheering on her oldest granddaughter or on the sidelines of football games supporting her youngest granddaughter. And if she has any spare time, you'll find her at the gun range with her youngest daughter. In her role, Linda not only supports our users but also interfaces with the leadership team, manages our infrastructure and vendors, and keeps a keen eye on controlling costs.
