LONI is an asset owned by the Louisiana Board of Regents and operated with the assistance of the LONI Management Council. The LONI Management Council, whose members represent state government and higher education, is charged with making recommendations to the Commissioner of Higher Education on the management of operations and associated business activities of LONI. The Council’s decisions and recommendations are guided by the LONI goals and objectives as defined by the Louisiana Board of Regents in response to gubernatorial and legislative directives. LONI is available for use by academic, government, and industry partners in collaboration with LONI member institutions.

Today marked a historic event for the LONI - Louisiana Optical Network Infrastructure as we celebrated our collective progress alongside our public and private partners during the launch of the LONI Security Operations Center on the LSU Flagship Campus. Our primary goal is to transform the cybersecurity landscape in Louisiana, shifting from a cost-centric recovery approach to a proactive investment. In parallel, we are committed to nurturing talent development for our students with engaging real world cyberattack incident and response management. John Bel Edwards, Louisiana Office of Technology Services (DOA), Louisiana Board of Regents, Louisiana State University, LSU Information Technology Services, Splunk, and TekStream Solutions.
I'm cautious to describe this as "groundbreaking," so will defer to Splunk's VP Bill Rowan and TekStream Solutions' CEO Robert Jansen, who noted "Louisiana State University and Louisiana are leagues beyond any university and state in cybersecurity talent development." The LSU SOC puts students on the front lines of cyber attacks against LSU's network, then extends that model statewide through the LONI - Louisiana Optical Network Infrastructure network with support from Louisiana Board of Regents so every higher ed institution can get real-time response and their own student training, too. In other words, LSU students working (and getting paid) to fight cyber threats against LSU's network, and using a reimagined statewide network to protect all of Louisiana - a real statewide threat platform to train students. It was an honor to be a part of this project, and appreciate the leadership and vision of Craig Woolley Sumit J. to incorporate this critical effort into our larger cybersecurity efforts. #GeauxTigers
