Break out the tissues! Our Session 1 Together to Kindergarten students graduated today. Over the past few weeks, we watched them grow and mature as they learned necessary skills for kindergarten success in the fall. Did you know that LICM has operated Nunley’s Carousel since 2022? This historic carousel is adjacent to us on Museum Row, where it has lived since its 2009 restoration. The Carousel resided in Brooklyn from 1912 until 1939, when it moved out to Baldwin as part of Nunley's Amusement Park. It remained there until the park closed in 1995. Following a complete restoration, the Carousel reopened on Museum Row in 2009. In our two years of operating the Carousel, we have met a few couples who had their first date at Nunley’s, and many parents and grandparents who came as children and are now introducing the magic of the Carousel to a new generation. It is a honor to care for this historic treasure that means so much to so many people. Today, we celebrated National Carousel Day: Each child who visited LICM also received a free ticket to ride on Nunley’s Carousel. Thank you to everyone who took part in this special event. Earlier this week, we welcomed author Gay Thomas, who read her book "Beezy County Fair: A Bee Tale,” to our enthusiastic visitors. Next month at our Honey Hoopla event on August 16 and 17, this story will be brought to life using props, puppets and the talents of some of our LICM performers as we share “Beezy County Fair” as a theatrical reading.
