Congrats to L M CEO Lisa Gomez, who was selected as an inaugural member of the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s (FHFA) 20-person Advisory Committee on Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Housing. The committee is tasked with providing “non-binding advice to FHFA on how its regulated entities (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks) can best serve as a reliable and responsible source of liquidity and funding for housing finance and community investment, including both single-family and multifamily housing.” Lisa was selected alongside a diverse group of housing experts, who will each have a term of two years. The group will focus on various housing topics, such as fair housing, tenant advocacy, single-family and multifamily lending and servicing, affordable housing development, capital markets, and technology. The Heritage, a 600-unit mixed-income L M property in East Harlem, was recently featured in The Retrofit Playbook for Large Buildings as a case study for its successful, fully occupied façade retrofit that reduces carbon emissions.     The playbook, developed by NYSERDA, RMI, Building Energy Exchange, and the Urban Land Institute, is a guide for best practices to support high quality, low carbon retrofits.     The Heritage was highlighted for its unique multifamily retrofit project that eliminated fossil fuel usage and improved resident comfort through the use of innovative retrofit methods, materials, and technology. The 2024 intern cohort recently toured LMXD's National Black Theatre (NBT) project in Harlem to learn more about the construction process. Joshua Elkin, a Project Executive with L M’s construction arm, gave an informative presentation about the process of taking a project from conception to completion. Then the group explored the site, a mixed-use building that will serve as a permanent home for the NBT and contain community spaces, activated retail, a large-scale events venue, and 222 new residential rental units. The interns were able to see various stages of the construction process at work and learn how the site was managed. The property tour was a great opportunity for interns across all departments to better understand the NBT project and the Construction Team at L M. Our team celebrated #Juneteenth by participating in the 31st Annual Harlem Juneteenth Parade this past weekend! We were accompanied by resident leaders, family and friends on our float to celebrate the holiday and gave out L M tote bags to the parade-goers. Congratulations to L M and all the finishers of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge. The challenge is the world’s largest corporate running event and takes place in 16 locations across eight countries annually!  Our teammates walked, jogged and ran the 3.5-mile course in New York City’s Central Park, along with representatives from over 800 other companies last week. We had the pleasure of welcoming our 2024 class of Summer Interns yesterday. L M CEO Lisa Gomez and other executives gave presentations and spoke to the diverse group of young and talented minds who represent the next generation of leaders in the real estate industry. The interns are joining various L M teams, including Development, Construction, Property Management, Compliance, Energy Sustainability, Legal, Communications Marketing, Community Affairs, Community Investment, Social Services, Insurance Risk Management, Information Technology, and Building Envelope. L M’s summer interns will receive hands-on experience with the teams and unparalleled mentorship over the course of 10 weeks. L M employee resource group (ERG) The Medley, which is committed to attracting, recruiting, and cultivating diverse voices, hosted a traditional Chinese paper cutting class in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month hosted by Ruo Chen. L M team members completed a fifth year of mentoring high school students with nonprofit PENCIL, Inc. Over the course of the school year, 12 L M volunteers provided mentorship, professional development, and industry insight to 30 high school senior students from Murray Hill Academy in Manhattan. The students also learned elements of real estate development, such as site analysis, pre-construction and design, and marketing and leasing. After a year of learning about the real estate industry, the students were tasked with creating a development proposal for an existing L M project site as their capstone presentations.
