    Data Scientist & Analytics Engineer

Use Data to Motivate Action My first few years out of grad school, I was only interested in exciting, sexy projects using Machine Learning. Fast forward a few years, I accept an Analytics Engineer role at Livepeer but I was worried about the impact on my career. It felt like an intellectual step backwards; I had this fancy Master's degree and I wasn't going to be called a "Data Scientist" anymore. I couldn't have been more wrong. Being a good Data Scientist isn't about Machine Learning or Ai. Its about solving problems. I just finished a project that resulted in 90% reduction in our unit costs. No fancy algorithms, just good data infrastructure and a basic dashboard. I got the data into the hands of the people who needed it. Use Data to Motivate Action At the same time... I'm off to write a model that uses AI to create "smart" video clips 🙃 #analyticsengineering #datascience

Technical Blueprint For The Livepeer Ecosystem – 2023 Update The goal for Livepeer is to be the backbone of video over the internet. It’s been two years since we last revisited the project’s technical roadmap, so now is a good time to look ahead at all that’s in store. Two years ago our focus was on driving demand, expanding core technology, and achieving decentralization. We’ve seen tremendous progress through products like Livepeer Studio as well as the Confluence upgrade, which migrated Livepeer to L2, onchain decentralized protocol governance, and the Delta upgrade, which introduced a community-governed onchain treasury. Now, as Livepeer matures, three key themes are driving the ecosystem's progress going forward: Accelerating the Pace of Innovation: Perhaps the most important item on the project roadmap is shipping a well documented, easy to use, updated Livepeer Broadcast Node that allows video developers to build their own custom video workflows and experiences, build and scale permissionlessly against the Livepeer network infrastructure, and run in a self-hosted environment with no reliance on any trusted third party or hosted service. These capabilities should greatly expand the potential pool of projects building on Livepeer. Expanding the Capabilities of the Network: Since its origin, Livepeer's bread and butter has been video transcoding. But it has the potential to support additional job types, including AI-based video compute. Recent advances in AI, and the explosion of demand for GPU based AI compute, mean that Livepeer could be the leading video compute network for things like generative video, deep fake detection/generation, realistic avatar generation, and more. It’s time to take the concrete steps to bring some of these capabilities to the node operators and network itself. One such step is Job Type Abstraction, which removes the assumption of transcoding into the Livepeer protocol and software, and instead abstracts it out so that nodes can register onchain for, and perform, multiple job types. There will be an open grant RFP for a small group or individual to identify and build a spike of one end-to-end additional job type that fits with existing transcoding requests. Please join the #developer-lounge channel to introduce yourself and discuss if you’re interested. Achieving Trustless Protocol Status Through Decentralization: Livepeer has long been one of the most decentralized DePIN and resource allocation protocols, and has made significant progress toward full trustlessness. Looking ahead, two key goals remain: binding onchain execution of protocol upgrades and parameter updates via governance, and direct community-governed control over the security committee process itself. Thank you to everyone who has helped make Livepeer what it is! Full Post ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dSzK4j2d
