What a MAGICAL day! Award winning author and illustrator Gordon C. James flew all the way up from North Carolina to pay a special visit to Liberty Elementary School Springfield Public Schools - Massachusetts. Mr. James shared with the students what inspired him to be an artist and what it takes to be a children’s book illustrator (“Never stop drawing. Practice practice practice!”). The children worked together with Mr. James to create a children’s book cover and every K-5 student received a SIGNED copy of his Caldecott Honor book “Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut” to keep as their very own. One little girl named Lilliana was so inspired by the visit that, upon returning to her classroom, she immediately drew her own children’s book cover and story. Lilliana proudly shared her work with Mr. James before he left the school. Thank you Gordon C. James for giving the children at Liberty an experience they will never forget and for inspiring future authors and artists. And thank you to the Pittman Family for sponsoring his visit and making this all possible❤️.
