Our final #WorldMaritimeDay feature is Safety Officer Dominykas Kneizys 🚢 Dominykas grew up in a seaman’s family on the Baltic Sea coast of Lithuania. He started sailing when he was 10 years old and immediately fell in love with nature, water and wind. Dom joined the National Geographic Resolution team in 2021 as she left the shipyard in Norway, repositioned to Southern Ocean, and had an inaugural voyage in Antarctica. He then joined National Geographic Orion as a safety officer, later becoming Staff Captain. “My favorite aspect of my job is having a chance to see, explore and get to know the most pristine and remote places in the world. Learning about different cultures, areas and environments gives me the chance to educate and spread the word to future generations.” Thank you again to all our Safety Officers who enable our explorations to run smoothly and safely. 👏

Next up for #MaritimeDay is Safety Officer Efrem Ghirmai 🚢 Born and raised in Helsingborg, Sweden, Efrem began his maritime studies in 2016. He joined the National Geographic Resolution team during the ship’s construction at the Ulsteinvik shipyard in Norway. Initially serving as a Navigation Officer, he was promoted to Safety Officer last year. “Operating in such isolated environments means we must rely entirely on our own abilities, with no room for error in the chain of command. I consider myself fortunate to serve on such a magnificent vessel alongside a dedicated and exceptional crew. To be able to be creative with my drills and interact with the entire crew on a daily basis is the most fun and, so far, this is my favorite position onboard.”

#WorldMaritimeDay’s theme this year is “Navigating the future: safety first!” As we explore remote environments around the world, we owe the security of our staff, guests and fleet to each of our Safety Officers. Meet Safety Officer Natalia Jarosik 🚢 Originally from Poland, Natalia has been with Lindblad for almost 3 years. She started her career as an officer trainee, then became a navigation officer, and recently was promoted to Safety Officer. “There are so many aspects of my job that I love! First of all, it combines working and exploring the world. Secondly, it challenges me every day— navigating uncharted areas in ice is a great exercise for your brain. It brings me so much satisfaction to work hard at safety trainings and then see the results of better team work and safety awareness among my colleagues!”
