Fritz Schroeder, thank you for carefully guiding us through today's fireside chat with Anne Applebaum and asking, what do we do to defend and protect our selves against autocratic governments. No easy answers, but deep thinking. Mathwon Howard always good to see you and Tamara Michel Josserand, loved giving you a hug...finally! Nothing substitutes for face to face. Great to be with Marie Schultz, Salma Adem, Rose Youngblood from The University of Texas at Arlington, Kim Nyoni from the University at Buffalo, Phillip Adams at Xavier University of Louisiana and Carl Simien, Ph.D. at Council for Advancement and Support of Education. As organizations adjust to evolving needs and conditions, they’re opening their minds more and more to candidates with transferable skills that transcend sectors and industries. But when the rubber meets the road, it can be challenging to evaluate candidates from outside traditional pipelines. If you're open to candidates with transferable skills, where do you start? The key is to distinguish between skills and competencies and to understand how they relate to one another (and how they map to the open position). We recommend that hiring leaders start by engaging in a process of deconstruction. Break down the role into its most elemental components: Tasks >>> Skills >>> Competencies. > Identify Essential Tasks. Start by analyzing the job description and identifying the key tasks required for the position. What is the end goal of this position and what day-to-day activities are required to achieve it? > Translate Tasks into Skills. Every task requires a set of specific skills to be successfully accomplished. This is an opportunity to articulate which skills are absolutely necessary for the position and which are in the "nice-to-have" category. > Deduce Competencies from Skills. Drill one level deeper to understand the competencies that support and activate the skills that are important to your organization. Competencies are fundamental abilities like relationship-building, communication, emotional intelligence, or analytic reasoning. Learn more about how to build wider talent pools by opening your organization to candidates with transferable skills and competencies: https://lnkd.in/gVvQ3uqz #recruiting #talent #TransferableSkills #strategy
