  • For the eighth summer in a row, Lightfoot has proudly partnered with Magic Moments , a local wish-giving organization dedicated to creating memories and experiences for children battling chronic life-threatening or acute life-altering conditions. Our firm raised over $5,000 to send Seldon, a local five-year-old recovering from Retinoblastoma and his family to Disney World. We had the pleasure of welcoming Seldon and his family to the Clark Building and sharing this exciting news with them in person! We are so grateful for the opportunity to give back to our Birmingham community and be part of initiatives like Magic Moments.

  • Bloomberg Law consulted partner Brandon Essig to weigh in on the recent U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) hearing of Kousisis v. United States. A former assistant U.S. Attorney and white-collar defense litigator, Brandon shared his predictions on how the SCOTUS justices will scrutinize federal enforcement agencies’ application of the “fraudulent inducement” theory in mail and wire fraud cases. Brandon referenced two former cases where the Supreme Court has sided with criminal defendants. “Think about that for a second,” Brandon said. “The court has been very strong in its skepticism of the DOJ's creative application of federal criminal statutes. With that in mind, I don’t like the government’s chances (in Kousisis).” Read more about Brandon’s take on the recent proceedings here: https://lnkd.in/gaU7wMSi
