Clayton Sparks Leaves His Mark...a tragedy turned into a story of hope. Clayton Sparks was 24 when a Colorado skiing accident took his life. In Houston, Reid Gray was desperately waiting for a liver due to ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Abby Gray, his wife and Ambassador of Hope, was 21-weeks pregnant with their twins. The two families had not ever met, but they did share a mutual friend. When the Sparks found out about Reid's liver disease, they saw it as an opportunity for Clayton's life to carry on. Through a direct liver donation, there's only a 25% chance of a match, but that small chance was enough for Reid. He was given a second chance at life because of Clayton's sacrifice of his liver. Clayton's selflessness also helped more than 80 other people through donations of his corneas, tissue and other organs. To honor Clayton's gift that gave Reid his life back, the Grays named their children Oliver Clayton and Kaylee June. To keep Clayton's story alive, Abby authored a heartwarming children's book about him called "Clayton Sparks Leaves His Mark." “We have been blessed to hear so many amazing stories about Clayton Sparks, my husband's donor, since we became connected through the gift of life,” says Gray. “I wanted to be able to inspire other children to be as kind as Clayton was and also honor the gift that he gave our family. I love that this book not only opens the conversation of organ donation within families, but it also can inspire children to look for ways to help those around them every day.” If you're participating in Houston's 2nd Chance Run, be sure to meet Team Clayton! Remember, you still have time to create your own team and honor your donor hero. To do so, visit here >>> https://ow.ly/2ktl50T6Nak #DonateLife #2ndChanceRun #GiveHope #Houston

During #NationalMulticulturalDonorAwarenessMonth, our main focus is educating diverse communities across Texas about the impact of organ, eye and tissue donation. At a recent health fair hosted by the Grand Prairie Spanish South Seventh-Day Adventist Church, we did just that. Nearly 150 attendees were inspired by our Ambassadors of Hope, William S. and Chandra M., who shared facts and addressed misconceptions about donation, encouraging others to register. A special shoutout goes to Sebastian A., a church volunteer who stepped in as LifeGift's Spanish Interpreter at the event. We can't wait to see you again, Grand Prairie! #GiveHope #DonateLife #NMDAM #NMDAM2024

"Breathe Easy" - that's the phrase you'll see written on Team Mike Anthony's t-shirts during Houston's 2nd Chance Run. 💙💚 Their donor hero, Micheal Anthony Oviedo, is the reason they run. In 2019, Micheal suffered a severe asthma attack at 21 years old. His mother, Lori Rojas, says becoming a registered donor was a decision Micheal made at just 15 years old when he obtained his driver’s license. Micheal saved the lives of four people through the selfless giving of his heart, liver, pancreas and both kidneys, restored sight to one individual through cornea donation and healed countless others through tissue donation. "Mike left his mark in this world by showing everyone that it’s okay to help and it’s okay to donate. Know that our loved ones did not leave us in vain; they have a greater purpose and are not only heroes but legends who will live on," shares Rojas. If you're participating in Houston's 2nd Chance Run, be sure to meet Team Mike Anthony! Remember, you still have time to create your own team and honor your donor hero.
