13-year-old Lukas Mason had a larger-than-life personality and a fierce competitive side on the football field, where he proudly sported #63. Tragically, Lukas passed away in 2020, but his bright light continues to shine in the lives he saved through organ donation. Lukas and his life-saving legacy were celebrated at what would have been his Senior Night at Clay High School's football game on Friday. Life Connection of Ohio's Community Outreach Coordinator Stephanie Burianek served as paparazzi during Jeff Jacobsen's presentation to the Xenia Rotary Club last week! Rewind to 2013, and Jeff was diagnosed with a rare case of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, which caused end-stage liver disease. Jeff was scared. His three older children had already lost their mother to brain cancer, and a liver transplant was the only hope for their father to live. Jeff said one of his sons “would ask God in his nightly prayers to give Daddy a new liver and he’d also pray for the family who would make that hard decision.” The miracle happened on November 13, 2014 in the form of a life-saving liver transplant. After surgery, Jeff was told that he most likely would have died within a month had he not received the transplant he so desperately needed. Jeff is grateful every day for his gift of life, and he will soon celebrate his 10-year liver transplant anniversary! #MyDonateLifeWhy #LiverAwarenessMonth #OrganDonation
