I was lucky enough to spend some time recently with colleague’s in the Southampton region who had reached their 10 and 25 year anniversaries with Lidl GB They were full of stories highlighting incredible growth, technological changes and the bizarre and wacky events that can only happen in retail. Now, just a few weeks later, I’ve also joined the 10 year club 🍾 It’s hard to believe that it’s been a decade since starting in Northfleet RDC as a terrified trainee, trying to understand a retail giant for the first time. Then to spending an incredible 7 years in Head Office, across Wimbledon and Tolworth, trying to make a difference from behind the scenes through countless new L&D concepts. Very soon it will be nearly two years back in regions, working with unbelievable colleagues right on the frontline of our business. Lidl has offered countless opportunities for development and growth and provided a space to be creative, to be trusted and deeply fulfilled in a career. For those just starting out or those looking for a career change, I couldn’t recommend it enough. 🌍 Lidl GB takes pioneering step to close the Living Wage Gap in Banana Supply Chain 🍌 Lidl GB is proud to be introducing an industry-first tool designed to tackle wage disparities among banana plantation workers, following a successful trial in Lidl in Germany. Rolling out across our entire banana supply chain in September, this innovative mechanism, developed with IDH, identifies and mitigates wage gaps through supply chain data analysis. This initiative is part of our commitment to closing the wage gap across our banana supply chain, a goal we are on track to meet ahead of the national 2027 target. By sharing our learnings with producers and suppliers, we aim to drive sector-wide change and set new standards for ethical sourcing. Our talented Employer Brand Team Manager, Chloe, recently embarked on her own 'Expert Assignment'. Chloe spent a year soaking up the sun ☀, sharing Lidl GB insights, and gaining invaluable experience in our Portuguese team. Hear all about her adventure 👂: "I wanted to experience living in another country my whole life, and as I got further along in my career and crossed into my thirties, I really thought that dream was out of reach. I was incredibly lucky to receive an offer to take up an ‘Expert Assignment’ for a year in Portugal where I was asked to share my knowledge and expertise from Lidl GB, whilst enjoying the Portuguese culture (and sunshine) 🕶. Lidl coordinated the whole assignment, from my packing, to my accommodation, and my flights back and forth ✈. It really was a dream come true for me. Of course there are always challenges with working and living somewhere new, but I was lucky enough to make friends for life from the Lidl Portugal office, and expand my network overseas. Thank you Lidl for the incredible opportunity."
