Great day in Houston as members of the GPA Communications Committee and staff participated in a workshop to use AI tools to develop new ideas for the Let's Clear the Air campaign. The day-long “Hackathon,” conceived of and hosted by agency partner Hahn included group brainstorming followed by breaking into teams to turn ideas into frameworks of potential campaigns. A new study conducted by ICF finds U.S. LNG exports are likely to have represented a net reduction in the world’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to the mix of alternative fuels, primarily coal and oil, that would have likely substituted for the LNG exports had they hypothetically not existed in 2022.   In fact, the latest research finds that shifting from U.S. LNG to coal increases GHG emissions by 47.7% - 85.9%, while shifting from U.S. LNG to fuel oil increases emissions 24.8% - 41.8%.   Learn more from the Study, released by our coalition and the Partnership to Address Global Emissions, and read the full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/gsH34d_U

New research announced today at an event on Capitol Hill found that U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports have significantly lower lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to coal, fuel oil, or a mix of alternative fuels. This research by ICF, commissioned by Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future and Partnership to Address Global Emissions, highlights the substantial environmental benefits of U.S. LNG. Key Findings: 🔹 Nations switching to imported U.S. LNG from coal would decrease GHG emissions by 47.7% to 85.9%. 🔹 Nations switching to imported U.S. LNG from fuel oil would decrease GHG emissions by 24.8% to 41.8%. The report underscores that U.S. LNG exports help reduce worldwide GHG emissions, even under stringent scenarios using high global warming potential and methane calibration values more than triple those used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The study identified faulty assumptions and questionable methodologies used in a 2023 lifecycle analysis by Robert Howarth of Cornell University, which was cited by the Biden administration when announcing the pause in LNG export approvals. The procedural missteps by Howarth led to significant miscalculations in relative GHG impacts and wildly erroneous results.
