Level creates and distributes free educational and job training content for people in prison.

About us

Level applies the power of education to break the destructive cycle of the American prison system. We offer educational, job training and personal development services for people in prison to convert otherwise wasted years of incarceration into an opportunity to prepare for a brighter, stronger future. It’s hard to overstate the costs of the American prison system. It shatters lives and dreams, and is upheld by the myth that our past has to define our future. Through the power of education, we can begin to break this destructive cycle. Access to education means a new hope for the future - not just for incarcerated people, but for their families and communities Level provides people in prison with modern educational, job training and personal development content that is custom created for their needs. Level’s program converts otherwise wasted years of incarceration into an opportunity to prepare for release. Level is the only nationally scaled provider of free job training and educational content for people in prison, filling a critical shortcoming and providing a lifeline to incarcerated people across the country. Big milestone! We just shipped out our 🚀 10,000th 💥 delivery of education and job training content to people in prison! Just a few years ago, we started out serving a few facilities in one state. Today, Level can be found in 940 state, federal, county and military prisons in 49 states ⚡️ ! This is all due to word-of-mouth, grassroots demand among people in prison. They have transformative visions of a better future. This order went to "J.B." (we've anonymized her name for privacy). She's in a state facility northeast of Houston, TX. She's been learning with us since 2022. In this order, we're sending a certificate for our guide Computer Science Without A Computer as well as a copy of our newest guide How The Internet Works. As with many of the people we serve, JB is looking to increase her chances of success after release. She first contacted us from a county jail, and we were able to continue serving her as she moved to state facilities. Thanks to all the incarcerated learners like J.B. for building our program, our volunteers, our staff, board and funders 🎉 for making this community thrive. If you'd like to learn more or be a part of our community, leave a comment!

This computer science guide has helped me gain a better understanding to the type of world I’m about to enter. I knew nothing about computer science or technology, except for what little I have been exposed to or told about. This guide was enlightening. Thank you!" – Orlando, incarcerated in Illinois

Non-profit program manager, elections administration nerd, and aspiring Texas policy wonk.

I'm thrilled to share that I began serving as Program Manager at Level this month! Working for the last year and a half to distribute Level's educational content to people in prison has been instructive and deeply rewarding. I'm so grateful for this chance to grow with and within this organization, and I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities our work will doubtlessly bring.
