Our research on the state of women at work over the last five years shows a disturbing trend: Latinas face the steepest climb up the corporate ladder—or the biggest drop in representation from entry-level to the C-suite. This is why we are launching our first-ever report on the #StateOfLatinas in corporate America. This report sheds light on some of the unique challenges Latinas face, and provides concrete recommendations for steps companies can take to prioritize Latinas’ advancement. For Latinas and all women to have a fair chance to succeed at work, we need systemic change. As we continue to work towards this goal, we have resources that can help. #SimoneBiles officially has more medals than any other American gymnast in Olympic history. Earlier today, #TeamUSA took home the gold in the women's gymnastics team event, earning Biles her eighth medal. Biles was previously tied with "Magnificent Seven" gymnast #ShannonMiller. But she's not done yet! Biles will compete in several individual events later this week, and we'll be cheering her on, along with the rest of Team USA. Go, Simone! 👏👏👏

#MondayMotivation tip: When you feel like an imposter in a space, remember it's not you; it's the system of biases and barriers that hold women and other people from traditionally marginalized groups back. Here are some steps companies can take to support employees from traditionally marginalized backgrounds and help foster connectivity at work. 1. Track metrics and set goals. This looks like setting and tracking representation, hiring, and promotions targets by both race and gender so women of color are not overlooked. 2. De-bias hiring and promotions decisions. Set clear and specific evaluation criteria for hiring and performance reviews and put evaluators through unconscious bias training to eliminate unfair, gendered assumptions. 3. Offer career development programs for women and women of color (e.g. formal sponsorship and/or mentorship programs specifically for women and/or women of color). Via @ devibhattaraii on Twitter.

Career tip from Shadé Zahrai: The people you keep in your inner circle matter. This is why we created #LeanInCircles. Lean In Circles are small groups that meet on a regular basis for peer mentorship, skill building, and inspiration. In a world where women still face bias and other barriers at work, Circles are a safe space to share your struggles, give and get advice, and celebrate each other’s wins. To create a Circle of people who can help you be the best version of yourself, head here: https://bit.ly/3y0wpAC

With 5,250 women and 5,250 men competing, #Paris2024 is the first Olympic games to achieve total gender parity. This isn't the first time Paris has been the site of a historic milestone for women in sports. It was the host city for the 1900 Olympic Games—the first to allow women to compete. Of the 997 athletes, 22 women competed in five sports: tennis, sailing, croquet, equestrianism, and golf. In addition to reaching gender equality among its competitors, the 2024 Paris Olympics will also feature the most balanced distribution of medals between women and men athletes in history, and 28 out of the 32 sports are fully gender equal. “This is our contribution to a more gender-equal world," said Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). We applaud the IOC for prioritizing gender equality. These efforts have led to the Olympic Games becoming the largest, gender-equal sporting event in the world 👏

Did you know that Latinas are less likely to be promoted to manager than most other groups? Alongside Black women, Latinas experience the most significant “broken rung” at the critical initial step up to management. For every 100 men promoted from entry-level to manager, only 74 Latinas are promoted—even though entry-level Latinas ask for promotions as often as men do. As a result, there are far fewer Latinas to promote at every subsequent level, and their representation dwindles from there.

Vice President Harris is on the path to becoming the first Black woman and the first South Asian woman to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination for President. In a world where there are still far too few women leaders of color in government, this is a historic moment. Congratulations to Vice President Harris – and to all the women running for office this election cycle – for breaking barriers and shattering outdated norms around what leadership looks like.

General Jennie Carignan took over as Canada's chief of the defense staff last Thursday in a ceremony that made her the first woman to command the country's armed forces. Trained as a military engineer, Carignan has commanded troops in Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq and Syria during her 35 years in the Canadian Army. "I feel ready, poised and supported to take on this manifold challenge," Carignan said at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. Congratulations to Carignan on making history.

Have you experienced this? #TakeOnBiasTuesday Reminder: Tasks like taking notes, planning office events, etc. tend to be seen as “women’s work” due to stereotypes that women are more communal and giving than men. We applaud Alex for making her boundaries known. 🙅♀️ If you find this issue continuously coming up in your own workplace, take note of who does the office housework on your team. If there are gender, racial, or other disparities, talk to your manager about rotating these tasks so they don’t fall heavily on any one group. Video credit: Alex.careerqueen on Instagram

"[Women] get framed as emotional, and I just say, 'F it!'" Tennis player #DanielleCollins isn't going to apologize for wearing her heart on her sleeve out on the court. In an interview after beating her opponent in the third round of #Wimbledon2024, she shared how her passion is her strength. In the sport of tennis, women players tend to be criticized much more harshly by referees and the public alike for outbursts. As tennis legend Billi Jean King has Tweeted in the past, "When a woman is emotional, she’s 'hysterical' and she’s penalized for it. When a man does the same, he’s 'outspoken' & and there are no repercussions." We applaud Danielle for bringing her authentic self to the game 👏
