Enlisting military veterans and Americans of all backgrounds to serve and lead in the places they call home.
About us
Lead For America is a national service organization that enlists military veterans and Americans of all backgrounds to serve and lead in the communities they call home. Since its founding in 2018, Lead For America has created more than 400 full-time public service Fellowships in 44 states. Lead For America has two flagship programs: the National Veterans Fellowship, and the American Connection Corps. Launching in the summer of 2024, the Lead For America Veterans Fellowship will support 50 Veterans each year in making the transition from the military into leadership positions back home. Each veteran will be provided a $100,000 stipend, spend the summer in Washington D.C. working with their Senator or Member of Congress, and then return to their home state, where they will work directly alongside the Governor, a Mayor, or a CEO for one year. Military veterans have already demonstrated their commitment to service, sacrifice, and personal courage. The Veterans Fellowship provides them an opportunity to bring that ethos of service to leadership positions in our communities across the nation. The American Connection Corps is the nation's premier AmeriCorps service program focused on advancing economic prosperity in rural and emerging communities. Through a one-year paid service placement with a local government agency or nonprofit, ACC helps exceptional people launch their careers and fulfill what's possible in the places where success is too often defined as “leaving and never coming back.” ACC alumni form a bench of local leaders who can bridge divides and spark needed change in the places they call home, ensuring that every corner of America has the great public servants it deserves.

Today, we were scheduled to be on Capitol Hill with nearly 100 American Connection Corps Members speaking directly to their representatives and senators about their local impact through our ACC AmeriCorps program. Unfortunately, current events had different plans and we made the decision to pivot to virtual meetings instead. Tom Branen, our VP of Government Relations, says it best: our Members made lemonade out of lemons! 🍋

What is a leadership artifact? 🤔 Let Nidal show you 🫖 Every graduation, our Members bring an “artifact” to participate in a show and tell of sorts. It helps them illustrate a story of leadership for their service year and kicks off our week together in a really special and unique way. American Connection Corps | AmeriCorps
