Many parts of North Carolina are experiencing unprecedented devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The School of Government and partner organizations are ready to provide support to local governments as they address the aftermath of the storm in the coming days and months. Our Emergency Management microsite provides information for North Carolina emergency managers. It covers laws and authorities related to emergency management, sample documents such as template state of emergency declarations, legislative updates, publications, emergency management law blogs, and links to other emergency management resources. As Hurricane Helene continues to impact the southeast region of the state, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill experts are available to discuss storm surge and flooding, water quality, financial losses/risks associated with tropical storms, beach erosion, and other storm-related issues. Several specialists, including the School's emergency management fellow Kathryn Van Tol, are here to serve as resources as the state responds to and rebuilds from the damage created by the storm. One of our incredible former Lead for North Carolina at the UNC School of Government Fellows!
The Town of Roseboro has transformed the previous Community Garden space. There is now a beautiful stage and landscaping which gives the community a public space to gather and be proud of. This project began during my fellowship and I appreciate the Town of Roseboro team for allowing me to continue the project. I am looking forward to how this area will be used to support local events. We are beyond thankful the Rural Community Capacity Implementation grant and the Sampson County Convention and Visitors Bureau Capital grant funding in making this project possible.

We hosted a panel with some of our favorite #stategovernment people today talking about the work they do and how their careers took off. Alumna Shelley Kennedy who works in violence prevention at UNC served as moderator. #unmpa alumni participants included Kristin Siebenaler, MPA who works for NC State in Business Analytics, Adora W. Thayer who works as an Analyst for the NC Broadband Infrastructure Office, and Toney Thompson MPA, PMP Thompson with the NC Dept of Health and Human Services.
