Early-stage acceleration programs, resources, and capital for businesses to prep, launch, and soar in Vermont.

About us

LaunchVT provides early-stage acceleration programs, resources, and capital for businesses to prep, launch and soar in Vermont. LaunchVT Accelerates the development of the 8 best-emerging startups in Vermont by connecting them with each other, advisors, service providers, investors, and direct business development support. LaunchVT provides intensive mentorship and business acceleration services to cohorts of eight entrepreneurs. The program runs from mid-April to mid-June and features a Demo Day where we award $35,000 in cash and over $100,000 in services. All eight members of the cohort receive mentorship specific to the needs of their businesses and participate in office hours, peer strategy sessions, focused trainings, pitch prep workshops, and investor events. Each member of the cohort will leave the accelerator with a refined and polished pitch deck, a Launch Report (executive summary), and extensive connections to local founders, advisors, investors, and service providers. In selecting our cohort and awarding cash and services, we look for: -Viability: Quality of the product, business model and team -Scalability: Market opportunity and revenue growth potential -Impact: Job creation and positive economic impact on VT REACT The REACT (Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Curriculum & Training) program is designed to support WorkSpaces and Organizations in their efforts to empower entrepreneurs in their communities. REACT provides business development curriculum and program support to regional partners across Vermont. Through a partnership with Co.Starters, LaunchVT will work with a network of regional organizations to launch nine-week comprehensive business support programs. The REACT program was modeled after a successful pilot collaboration with Generator called JUMP/START. LaunchVT has a state-wide license for the Co.Starters curriculum, and will provide curriculum materials, facilitator training, program support, and facilitator network.

🎙️ Public Speaking Coach ❌ 5x TEDx organizer ⛵ Boat dweller 💡 Speech editor & storyteller

It's my pleasure again this year to support the LaunchVT cohort as they prepare their pitches for demo night. So this week I figured I'd talk a little about what makes a great pitch. You know storytelling is at the heart of my answer... but why? With a pitch it's so easy to get sucked into the data trap. You become so focused on making your potential investors see the business case you forget to help them see the human case. And data alone is dangerous. Why? 1) Stats start arguments. You might think your business will grow at 16% next year, but if the investor disagrees your persuasive argument turns to dust. Stats alone can lead to ‘rejecting the premise’ so think very carefully how and why you are including them. Only if they are essential and indisputatble! If you are asked about them- how will you back them up? 2) Information doesn’t lead to realization We make terrible decisions all the time when we KNOW better- eating donuts for breakfast, driving to the store instead of walking, using social media before bed. What information can you provide to make the investor BELIEVE in you? An investor can't just understand your business, they need a reason to care about it. 3) Context over content. Numbers are not enough, because they don’t mean anything on their own. The facts don’t speak for themselves- you do! My kiddo got a book when he turned 4 called Four is a little, Four is a lot.  Four blueberries is a little, Four brussel sprouts is a lot. It's the story around the stat that makes it meaningful. *** If you’re inviting in an investor, you’re inviting in a partner. A partner needs to buy into your vision. They need to see and believe in the journey so they can picture themselves on it with you. Every investor will tell you something different about what makes a great pitch- the perfect deck, the right visuals, the exact data they want to hear.   In reality, once their fundamental benchmarks have been met (rock-solid business model, good growth projections, customer experience etc) most investors base their decision on a gut reaction. They know it when they feel it. The thing that pulls them in, makes them want to learn more, realize it's potential... that's the story you tell that an investor wants to be part of. *** If you need help sharing your story let's chat https://lnkd.in/eG4HCr52 #storytelling #publicspeaking #speakercoach #pitch
