Seven years ago, LIS was founded in New York City, three years ago we expanded to our second on the ground community in San Diego and last week Latinxs in Sustainability made its first ever debut in Chicago. Sustainability professionals got together to connect over food and beverages at Antique Taco. This is the first event to come and we're super excited to continue to gather and grow our community in Chicago. Stay tuned! Shout out to Gerardo Aguilar for spearheading this effort!
Latinxs in Sustainability
Non-profit Organizations
To establish pathways for underrepresented and under-resourced Latinx communities.
About us
Latinxs in Sustainability (LiS) is a collective that aims to unite Latinx-identifying professionals and students in the sustainability field. We work to dismantle the structural barriers that have hindered Latinx representation in the environmental movement and champion inclusive and accessible career pathways for our Latinx communities. We provide Latinx climate leaders with the resources, awareness, and opportunities they need to thrive in their personal and professional journeys, thus becoming change agents for their communities and beyond. Among our member base, these opportunities take the form of networking, mentorship, knowledge sharing, professional development, and community building.

📣📣📣We are so excited for our first ever meet up in CHICAGO!! In 2017, LiS started with a meet up at a bar in NYC to figure out if there was a need for this community - we realized right then that there was and we haven’t stopped since. In 2022, Sebastian Sarria started our #SanDiego community which continues to grow! And now, we are so thrilled to have Gerardo Aguilar launch our presence in #Chicago! Join us for this first meet up at #antiquetaco in Bridgeport, to network and connect with Latinx professionals who currently work or aspire to work in the environmental and sustainability sector! We look forward to meeting you there! RSVP at the link & reshare to help us spread the word! #latinxsinsustainability #latinosinchicago #sustainability #latinxprofessionals

Earlier this month, ILG’s Roberto Carlos Torres spoke on a panel hosted by Latinxs in Sustainability and San Diego Green Drinks about his career experience and the importance of promoting #equity and #environmentaljustice in #localgov. We’re grateful for Roberto, his vast experience, and the perspective he brings to our #publicengagement pillar!

We had a blast with San Diego Green Drinks this past Thursday where we heard and were inspired by Yamilett Carrillo and Roberto Carlos Torres's personal stories of resilience and perseverance in developing their careers in climate. Thank you to everyone who attended! Our communities are only stronger with you in it.

Latinxs in Sustainability is looking to rerun our “CCNY Sustainability Level Up” course in the fall of this year. Last semester our course brought over 20 volunteer lecturers from various professions within the sustainability industry to 16 CCNY engineering students so that they could be better informed and exposed before beggining their careers and ultimately level the playing field for local New Yorkers in the CUNY system! We are looking for someone to help us manage this 3-credit program next semester so that we can continue to create and strengthen the workforce pipeline between CCNY and the industry. If you are interested in project managing this workforce program please let me know as we have some funds available! If you are interested in supporting this program as a volunteer lecturer or with financial contributions so we can strengthen this program- please reach out! Please reshare this so we can reach a wider audience! You can learn more here-https://lnkd.in/ebbkUDq8
