For many Latinos, the line between multigenerational living and doubled-up homelessness is easily blurred, leaving people who are living with others as a means of survival to struggle to express what they're going through and find resources to help themselves and their families. We want to shed light on doubled-up homelessness so that those who are experiencing it can define it and not feel alone, and so that we can find and advocate for solutions. If you might have experience with doubled-up living, we want to hear from you. Share your story anonymously, sign up for our updates, and learn more ➡️ https://bit.ly/doubled-up Special thanks to Chicago Funders Together to End #Homelessness for supporting this project. #housingisahumanright #endhomelessness

Yesterday, Sylvia joined Janice Jackson, EdD, CEO of Hope Chicago and Paul Reville, Francis Keppel Professor of Practice of Educational Policy and Administration at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, on a panel moderated by Daniel Anello, CEO of Kids First Chicago for The Economic Club of Chicago to discuss Chicago’s first ever elected school board. View the panel discussion here: https://lnkd.in/e6wBSEUx On November 5th, Chicago will get to elect 10 members to the 21 member school board, the largest in the country. And in 2027, voters will get to elect all 20 members plus the school board president. As voters, we have a duty to make informed decisions about who we elect to these important positions because the future of our students depends on it. Have you ever thought about being a poll worker? During elections, poll workers are an important resource for voters and play a crucial role in ensuring fair and accessible elections. And in communities where a large number of voters are Spanish-speakers, bilingual poll workers are absolutely critical. With over 36.2 million Latinos eligible to vote this year across the country, it’s important that we have enough poll workers that can help our community navigate the voting process effectively. When reaching out to Latinos, political candidates have often solely focused on immigration, an issue that many in our community cares about, however, we know that Latinos also care about other issues such as education, healthcare, jobs, and the economy. “The numeric growth of the Latino population, the increasing number of eligible Latino voters, and the reality that neither party has captured the trust or loyalty of this crucial voting bloc means that both parties and all candidates in every state, but most importantly those with significant Latino populations and those with rapidly increasing Latino populations, need to ‘speak’ to the priorities and challenges of the diverse Latino population.” In her latest op-ed for the Fulcrum, Noreen Sugrue, Latino Policy Forum vice president of research, writes about the power of the Latino vote and makes the case for why candidates need to better understand and prioritize all the issues that Latinos care about. Thank you to Representative Delia Ramirez for recognizing the Latino Policy Forum’s efforts to engage the Latino community around the census and equitable representation during her Special Order Hour last week. We are also grateful for the congratulations extended to Sylvia Puente as she transitions from her role as President and CEO to Senior Advisor in 2025. With so many efforts to intimidate and discourage Latinos from voting throughout the US, it is clear that our community has incredible potential to be a decisive voice in the upcoming elections. But we can only do this if we claim our power and make sure we are #VoteReady! As a first step, it is crucial that you register to vote as soon as possible. And even if you’ve registered to vote in the past, double check your voter registration; it’s easy! Register to vote and check your registration status here: vote.gov/register
