Walking in another's shoes — or in this case, steel-toe work boots — is an excellent way to gain perspective, empathy, and understanding. LTD Community Resource Liaison Sarah A. Koski went behind the scenes with LTD's Fleet Management team to experience their work first-hand.
2024 Oregon Women’s Commission Woman of the Year | Vital Voices Visionary Fellow | Ask me about the intersection of "Transit" and "Homelessness"
I've been with Lane Transit District (LTD) for nearly nine months, and during this time, I've gained a deeper understanding of "mobility management"—a transportation strategy that focuses on customer needs and coordinating services. Lately, I have been learning about this topic through an equitable lens, focusing on older adults, rural populations, people with disabilities, and the unhoused. (My tribe). Thanks to Eric Evers, Director of Fleet Management at Lane Transit District, I had the incredible opportunity to observe the inner workings of our transit system behind the scenes. Once the routes ended and the community slept, I met the dedicated cleaners, general service workers, and many others who keep our transit services running smoothly. They shared their experiences, their passion for the work, and their invaluable insights. These observations have given me a no-holds-barred perspective on the mechanics of transit. I am empowered and encouraged. Here are some snapshots from my experience. 📸
