🤔 Did you know: On this day in 1990, the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed into law? Through the ADA, we advocate for equal rights, accessibility, and respect for individuals with disabilities. We strive to create a society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive and be celebrated for their unique strengths. 🌟 As we also celebrate Disability Pride this month, let's spread the message of respect and understanding for those living with disabilities -- more than 56 million people in the U.S. alone. Together we can change the conversation, challenge stereotypes, and cultivate a society where everyone is valued, respected, and celebrated for who they are! 💙💫 #DisabilityPride #AccessiblityMatters #ADA #DisabilityRights #DisabilityPrideMonth

26% of Americans — and 36% of LGBTQ adults — live with disabilities. Shouldn't the federal judiciary reflect that? People with disabilities deserve judges who understand the challenges and successes they face. Disability rights experience is crucial for the federal judiciary, especially as many legal cases involve disability rights. Judges with a strong understanding of these laws can ensure fair and just outcomes for everyone. We need to confirm more disability rights lawyers to the bench. #FillEverySeat #CourtsMatter #DisabilityPrideMonth

According to a 2024 report from the Public Religion Research Institute, nearly 30% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ . When we talk about what it looks like to support and care for the next generations of our LGBTQ community, it is imperative that we recognize the unique needs of our young people who are coming of age in an era of more visibility than ever before—and a hostile political climate. We need to continue to make sure that LGBTQ young people are connected with supportive programs and services, both at school and in their local community, that can help them navigate their identities. We will continue to fight for full lived and legal equality so that LGBTQ young people learn about rather than experience discrimination in the classroom. #LGBTQ #Equality #ProtectLGBTQYouth #LGBTQYouth

Did you know that July is also Disability Pride Month! This month — and all year long — it is important to celebrate the beautiful diversity that exists within the disability community and honor the accomplishments and contributions of folks living with disabilities throughout history. 💜 As we commemorate this important month, let's also recommit ourselves to being allies to those with disabilities. That means listening to their experiences, understanding their needs, and advocating for their rights. 🗣️🤝 Whether that's supporting disability-led organizations, donating to disability-focused causes, or simply educating ourselves on disability issues, every action counts. 🌎💜 Let's continue working towards a more inclusive society and recognize the importance of accessibility for all. ♿️🏳️🌈 #DisabilityPrideMonth #DiversityMatters #DisabilityRights #LambdaLegal

All students, including LGBTQ , deserve to see themselves and their stories reflected in books. 📚🌈 That is why Percy Batista-Pedro, a rising high school senior, joined our lawsuit challenging SF 496, Iowa’s Don’t Say LGBTQ and book banning law. Now, Percy is Speaking OUT for the youth voices impacted by this oppressive legislation. “My dreams for trans people in this world are to be seen as regular people who do not need special treatment or special exclusion. To be seen is to exist. Everybody needs to be accepted by their fellow human beings.” As a united community, we must Speak OUT to demand an end to these oppressive laws, ensuring all books remain on library shelves, students can speak up freely and use their correct names and pronouns, as well as keeping LGBTQ youth safe and recognized. Visit the official Speak OUT campaign page to learn more about our campaign and hear more from Percy in their own words ➡️ lambdalegal.org/speak-out #SpeakOUT #TransVisibility #TransRights #LGBTQYouth #LGBTQRights #Trans #Nonbinary #ProtectTransKids #LGBTQ

Do you know what it means to petition for a writ of certiorari? This means to ask the United States Supreme Court to take the case to review a lower court’s decision. Under the rules of the Supreme Court, four of the nine Justices must agree to accept a case. If the judges decide to grant a writ of certiorari, the case is placed on the Court’s docket. On June 24, 2024, the Supreme Court granted certiorari in L.W. et al. v. Skrmetti et al., the legal challenge brought by the United States and Tennessee families and a medical provider against a 2023 state law banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth. The Court granted the Petition filed by the United States, which was a party in our case. The Court is expected to hear arguments later this year. Remember, knowledge is power, and understanding legal concepts empowers us all to fight for a more inclusive and equitable society. Head to our website to learn more about the case: https://lnkd.in/esYtzAM2 Interested in learning legal terms and how they impact our lives? Today, as we celebrate International Nonbinary People’s Day, we are proud to honor the incredible diversity within the gender spectrum! 🏳️🌈✨ Being nonbinary means embracing a beautiful identity that transcends traditional labels, giving voice to those who do not fit into a binary concept of gender. 🔑 Respecting and recognizing the nonbinary community is vital. Every individual deserves to be seen, heard, and loved for who they truly are. It is through unity and understanding that we can build a more inclusive world that embraces and celebrates people of all gender identities. It’s time to Queer 👏 the 👏 bench 👏 The most recent polling shows that 7.6% of the U.S. population is LGBTQ , but only 2.6% of federal judges openly identify as LGBTQ . This 5% gap represents a slight increase from last year, according to Lambda Legal’s 2023 judicial nominations report. Put simply—the federal judiciary does not reflect the diverse country it serves. And currently, there are no LGBTQ nominees or nominees living with HIV awaiting confirmation. Considering the pressing litigation impacting transgender and nonbinary rights, we need a judiciary that represents us. President Biden and our senators, it’s time to queer the bench!
