  • Two years ago, the Biden-Harris Administration worked with Congress to enact the most significant climate investment in the history of the United States. From expanding clean energy to increasing climate mitigation and resilience, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) set a new precedent for climate action to support our communities and protect our environment. In a long list of provisions, the IRA notably expanded EV tax credits, created good-paying clean energy jobs, and provided discounts to make it more affordable for families to purchase energy efficient appliances. From the second half of 2022 through the first half of this year, actual business and consumer investment totaled $493 billion, a 71% increase from the two-year period preceding the legislation. On the second anniversary of the enactment of the IRA, we continue to applaud this transformative legislation and the other groundbreaking legislative victories achieved by the Biden-Harris Administration, including the CHIPS and Science Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law–which LACI and TEP helped to inform by drafting a $150 billion federal stimulus proposal that outlined how the federal government could invest in electrification of transportation infrastructure. With the IRA continuing to benefit communities across the country, we’re eager to build on this progress in 2025. Next stop: securing funding for incubators that empower cleantech innovators and grow the green workforce! https://lnkd.in/eKzjQeeE

  • With just four years until the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, LACI continues to work toward our bold 2028 clean energy and transportation electrification goals. LACI President and CEO Matt Petersen recently shared his vision with Government Technology's Skip Descant, citing the region's progress to date and the work still to be done in electrifying heavy-duty transportation and expanding charging infrastructure. Achieving these goals will not just support the 2028 Games, but also serve our local communities long after the closing ceremony. "L.A. is going to be the showcase for the world. And every investment we make here has a long-term benefit for the lives of Angelenos and people across the region," said Matt. Read the full article and stay tuned for more as we continue on the road to 2028 ⤵️

Once the Paris Olympics and Paralympics games are over, LA is up next! 🥇 . The city is in the thick of preparations in many ways, and one is the Transportation Electrification Partnership (TEP) with the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and key stakeholders around the LA region. ⚡️🔋 . In my story, I highlight how former Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) startups -now turned partners- are helping to transition our transpo energy infrastructure through workforce training and conversion of diesel trucks. 🚛 . Some key targets by TEP in time for LA28👇 ⚡️129k public and workplace chargers installed for passenger vehicles ⚡️30% of light duty passenger vehicles on the road are zero emissions vehicles (ZEV) ⚡️80% of sales of passenger vehicles are ZEV ⚡️40% of short haul & Drayage trucks are ZEV ⚡️95k chargers installed for goods movement ⚡️60% of medium duty delivery trucks are ZEV ⚡️5% of heavy duty trucks are ZEV . . . #transportation #electrification #olympics #LA28 #cleanenergy #cleanair #greeneconomy

  • LACI expresses our deepest gratitude to President Joe Biden for his leadership on climate, including the most historic federal climate legislation in history, the Inflation Reduction Act. Thank you President Biden for your service to our country. In 2015, LACI was proud to welcome then-Vice President Biden to our campus. We were similarly excited to host Vice President Kamala Harris on campus in April 2023, and the passion she shared with all those assembled for equitable climate policies and lifting up underrepresented founders and workforce training participants. LACI was honored when VP Harris said “LACI is a model — a worldwide model.” Thank you to the Biden-Harris Administration for their ongoing efforts to build cleaner, greener communities. Check out photos below from these two unforgettable visits, along with a transcript from Vice President Harris's speech at LACI ⤵️. https://lnkd.in/g2XMPzsB

  • With the Paris Olympics set to begin this week, we are laser focused on making progress toward the bold targets we hope to achieve by the time the world arrives in LA for the 2028 Games. We recently hosted Spectrum News 1 at the launch of our new EV Reliability Training Hub with ChargerHelp! to share some of these efforts. LACI President & CEO Matt Petersen discussed our bold Transportation Electrification Partnership targets and how we are convening key regional stakeholders to achieve them, and Evette Ellis highlighted the ways in which ChargerHelp! is working to ensure that chargers work when drivers need them. The Spectrum team also stopped by LACI alumni company Evolectric - CircularEV™ Solutions to check out their new facility and to hear from Jakson Alvarez about how the company is converting commercial truck fleets from diesel to electric power, helping us advance toward our goal to have 60% of medium duty trucks be electric by the time of the 2028 Games. Excellent and timely reporting by Sarah Pilla as we gear up to cheer on Team USA in Paris. Check out the feature here ⤵️

  • The day has finally arrived! After years of diligent planning, today LACI and our portfolio company-turned-partner ChargerHelp! launched the nation’s first multi-manufacturer EV Charger Reliability Training Hub in South Los Angeles. The new hub is made possible thanks to State of CA funding secured by Rep. Sydney Kamlager during her time in the state legislature. The hub will help advance our bold Transportation Electrification Partnership targets and support the workforce development training needed for skilled technicians to diagnose EV chargers & repair non-electrical issues across the U.S. Moreover, this new facility will overcome the limitations posed by traditional single-manufacturer EVSE service training centers located across the United States, which are run by individual brands and can only train technicians on their specific technology in small groups. In a multi-technology environment, technicians will be able to train across all EVSE equipment at the new South LA facility. Alongside our ChargerHelp! partners Kameale C. Terry and Evette Ellis, we were delighted to share the stage at a launch event today led by @Matt Petersen, and featuring Estelle Reyes, LACI workforce grad Brian Martinez, SJ Oh from BTC POWER, Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, and the office of Marqueece Harris-Dawson. This site complements LACI’s world class facility at the LADWP’s La Kretz Innovation Campus. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has also generously supported the build out of this new facility with electrical upgrades. LACI President and CEO Matt Petersen weighed in on the significance of the new hub: “As we see more and more EVs on the road and chargers get installed across our communities, we are very excited to empower individuals to be trained to ensure chargers work when we need them. Thanks to the support of Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove, we are excited to open this facility with LACI portfolio company and now partner, ChargerHelp! Together, we will support the creation of good paying jobs and continue to set the conditions to advance our transportation electrification goals.” Special thanks to our many friends and partners who also have supported us along the way and those that joined the celebration, including: the Office of Mayor Karen Bass; the Office of Councilwoman Heather Hutt; and LACI advisory members Ana Guerrero, Michelle Schwartz, Francis Pollara. 🔗 Read the full release for more on this first-of-its-kind facility: laci.la/EVReliabilityHub
