Updates

  • Last week, a LAHSA outreach team helped Rainbow, a 34-year-old pregnant woman in the North Hollywood area, to get into the maternity program at a local hospital. At first, Rainbow was reluctant to accept services, but our team kept working with her and convinced her to go to the hospital. LAHSA’s outreach teams often find barriers to placing clients into housing, but the hardest may be when the client is hesitant to accept the help and resources that we offer. However, our outreach teams don’t give up and keep working with clients to find the solution that works for them. To read more, click the link in bio.

  • People fall into homelessness for several reasons. A cancer diagnosis left Ed Larson unable to work for over four years. Ed speaks on how rough his experience was, describing how he would go a week without seeing anyone living outside in the Palmdale desert. No one deserves to have their housing taken away because of a disease. To watch how our outreach team helped Ed obtain permanent housing, head over to our YouTube page!

  • The 2024 Homeless Count results show that unsheltered homelessness has decreased and there has been an increase in sheltered homelessness, meaning more people are inside, off the streets, and on their way to permanency. While this year’s results are hopeful, homelessness persists at unacceptable levels. The same root causes of homelessness exist throughout the nation – a lack of affordable housing being chief among them – so we at LAHSA will remain vigilant to find solutions for our unhoused neighbors in LA.

  • “Do you really want to move forward…to see what’s next? I choose to see what’s next.” Ernest chose to come inside via interim housing. While in interim housing, a client works with case managers to become ready for permanent housing. Case managers help clients secure documents, assist with their physical disabilities, find a permanent housing unit, and more. It’s truly a team effort, and we are now a part of Ernest’s team until he is home permanently. Head over to our YouTube to watch his full story!

  • L.A. County, with the help of LAHSA, was awarded a $51.5 million Encampment Resolution Fund grant from the State of California aimed at helping people experiencing homelessness along the 105 Freeway and nearby riverbeds access housing and services over the next three years! The County's Pathway Home initiative will use these funds to move close to 600 people into interim and permanent housing. They will also continue to assist the nearly 600 people currently housed since its launch in August 2023. To read the full article, click the link in bio!

  • With temperatures rising, LAHSA, LA County, and the City of LA have activated their Emergency Response Program. Through outreach teams, LA County is offering 50 motel vouchers to our unhoused neighbors in the Antelope and San Fernando Valleys who are medically vulnerable to the heat. In addition, LA County has made several cooling centers accessible to those in need during this extreme heatwave. The City of LA is also opening cooling sites at four recreation centers which can be found in the Cool Spots LA app. Over 150 cooling centers across LA County can be found at: ready.lacounty.gov/heat
