Most watched Chinese local news in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Chinese-language local newscasts are very popular in the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose television market. Last night (Monday February 5, 2024), KTSF's Local Chinese Newscast was watched by more Adult 25-54 viewers than any other station in the market, whether in English, Chinese, or Spanish. How can KTSF be such a strong Early Local News player? • English-speaking voters have a choice of SIX local newscasts, on KTVU, KRON, KGO, KPIX, KNTV, and KPYX. • Spanish-speaking voters have a choice of TWO local newscasts, on KDTV and KSTS. • However, Chinese-speaking voters have a single choice for local news: on KTSF. KTSF has broadcast the USA's first nightly local newscasts in Chinese since 1989. This first newscast was seen as such a turning point in providing in-language news and information for a previously un-served population, that a copy of that first newscast is part of the Smithsonian collection in Washington, DC. Asians now represent 28% of SF-OAK-SJ Households, 30% of Adults 18 , and 33% of Adults 25-54.
