In 2018, we teamed up with Bloc Ministries Inc to create a teaching kitchen for teens in Cincinnati, in collaboration with Cincinnati Public Schools. This initiative has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for many young individuals. Here's how it's been going! Chef Jeff Pitts, the lead chef at BLOC Ministries, shared, "I love this. It gives the opportunity to see somebody that looks like them, to see that you don’t have to be a baller. You can come out of it. You can do what you need to do to be successful.” Chris Staser, director of Operations at BLOC Ministries, expressed his pride in the impact they've made: “What we do is making a huge difference, and I know we are just making a drop in the bucket. This program has touched literally thousands, helping kids graduate, helping people get full-time jobs, helping families come together, bringing community; that’s just one program and one neighborhood.” This teaching kitchen is more than just a place to learn cooking skills; it’s a place of growth, empowerment and community. School’s out for the summer, and while for many that means three months of sun, cookouts and fireworks, for others it can mean going hungry without that guaranteed school lunch. Recently, associates in the Columbus division came together to pack more than 3,000 healthy meal kits for local students in need during the summer months. Nine years ago, fresh out of college, Samantha Carroll joined Kroger without realizing the career path it would offer. Today, Samantha is proud to serve as a Regional Construction Manager, leading projects from start to finish.  One of Sam’s favorite aspects of her role is being out in the field, seeing projects come to life.
