The newly designed and successfully demonstrated Kratos Trolley Launch System (KTLS), the second of three XQ-58 Valkyrie launch methods, enables the XQ-58 Valkyrie to take off from traditional runways or straight roads, as well as being deployed in standard shipping containers and rail launched with Rocket Assist Take Off (RATO) from austere locations. The KTLS is unpowered with take-off thrust provided solely by the aircraft jet engine. For KTLS take off, which is fully autonomous, the aircraft engine throttles up just like a conventional jet take off, and the combined system, Valkyrie and KTLS, accelerates down the runway. Ultimately, at lift-off speed, the aircraft flies up and away (separates) from the KTLS which then deploys drogue chutes and brakes to a stop on the runway while the aircraft proceeds to its flight mission. U.S. Space Systems Command awarded four contracts to Blue Origin, CACI International, General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems and Viasat to enhance long-range space communications with advanced laser technology. DIFI held its second PlugFest last week! Participants tested a variety of devices to ensure compatibility with DIFI 1.2 standards, which was introduced last September. Nine equipment makers submitted an assortment of modems, digitizers and simulators for testing, and about 178 test cases were executed with 93% of tests at least partially compliant, and 75% fully compliant.
