About us
As a federally qualified health center, we exist to provide compassionate and comprehensive primary care to the entire Kodiak community. Kodiak Community Health Center began operations in January 2004 and has grown rapidly in response to the high level of community need and positive response the exceptional care we provide our patients. We offer healthcare services to everyone in our community – insured, uninsured and underinsured. Our comprehensive, state-of-the-art health center is staffed with six MD's and Physician Assistants as well as a full staff of experienced and caring Medical Assistants. We are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays, with available appointments in the evenings and same day appointments for sick visits. Easy access and convenience are the foundation of our health center - we are located adjacent to the hospital which ensures that most services for our patients can be completed the same day. We also provide referral arrangements such as mental health treatment and counseling, substance abuse service, specialty care, and hospitalizations. Kodiak Community Health Center is proud to also offer enabling services not found in traditional medical practices such as the Sliding Fee Discount Program based on family size and income level for the uninsured and those with a limited income, translators (Spanish and Tagalog on-site), and comprehensive case management services.

Very proud of our positive impacts assisting substance dependence in the Kodiak community.
When an individual struggling with drug dependency contacts the Kodiak Community Health Center Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, chemical dependency counselor Helen Shepard says the first thing their staff does is make sure the individual is safe. Second, and perhaps most important, she adds, is that they show the patient that they are seen, that they matter. “With MAT, we are meeting patients where they are in that moment,” she says. Providence Alaska provided $17,500 to help support the Kodiak Community Health Center’s MAT program, which since 2019 has been offering medical intervention for those struggling with drug addiction. MAT is an evidence-based treatment that greatly increases opioid recovery rates. #CommunityBenefit

More than 1,400 community health centers (CHCs) working in 15,000 rural and urban communities are awaiting congressional action around the Community Health Center Fund. CHCs depend on this Fund, which is essential not only to health centers but also to the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which deploys medical and health professionals to critical shortage areas, and the teaching health centers (THCs) program. Leaders on both sides of the aisle have the opportunity to work together to ensure CHCs and the 31 million patients they serve have the resources they need to thrive.
