KCA is proud to announce that our Sanibel Causeway Emergency and Permanent Reconstruction has earned additional accolades! The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Florida Section has selected this project as its 2024 Project of the Year. Completed on behalf of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the project was a collaborative effort with Superior Construction and The de Moya Group, Inc., with whom KCA proudly shares this honor. After Hurricane Ian devastated the Sanibel Island Causeway, our emergency repairs restored access to the island within just 15 days, nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. The longer-term repairs enhanced the causeway's resilience against future storms. KCA accepted the award at the ASCE Florida Section Annual Conference on July 12, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. Today, Kisinger Campo & Associates, Corp. (KCA) Carolinas group began a summer lunch and learn series to improve our team’s knowledge of various areas. Today’s presentation by Laura Sutton, PE, CPM provided an overview on the history of the PDN in the NCDOT environment, how we got to the present day and how to work with our partners NCDOT. Over 30 personnel from five offices across KCA were in attendance. At KCA, we are grateful to continue our partnership with NCDOT as part of the project delivery team serving the all of the people who use our highway infrastructure.

Congratulations to 2024 Outstanding Major Award recipients GAI Consultants, Inc. (Design Consultants) and Eisman & Russo, Inc. (CEI Consultant) for their I-95 at I-10 Interchange/Fuller Warren Bridge Project! Project highlights include: ● ADT is over 180,000 vehicles per day with over 1,100 businesses, 8,000 residents, multiple hospitals, historic buildings and financial institutions adjacent to the project. ● Added a third level I-95 NB to I-10 WB flyover ramp structure - crossing over existing I-95 NB and SB mainline. ● Added Capacity to I-95 by widening the Fuller Warren Bridge, adding additional lanes of traffic in both directions to improve traffic flow for I-95 NB to I-10 WB and US 17/I-10 EB to I-95 SB. ● Added OH signage and reduced weave with ramp reconfiguration and added lanes for ramp exits. ● Added a 12’ Shared Use Path which connected the north bank and south bank communities, Riverside to San Marco. This allows pedestrians and bicyclists to cross the St. Johns River next to I-95 mainline on the Fuller Warren Bridge. ● Working with the local government to allow an “artist walk/skate park” be constructed under the Fuller Warren Bridge. ● Overcame COVID and the delays and material escalations that were experienced industry wide. ● Post-tensioned spliced girders, post-tensioned straddle bents, 60”, 72” and 84” drilled shafts, micro piles The Outstanding Project Awards annually recognize the impressive achievements of ACEC Florida members in carrying out Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) studies and projects. Nominations were submitted from projects in FDOT’s seven districts, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, and the Central Office. The awards committee is comprised of ACEC Florida and FDOT representatives.
