  • We’re excited to have been part of Ashland Independent Schools' Project IGNITE: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) camp! Our King’s Daughters Medical Transport team visited the school, giving students a chance to learn about their job duties and what devices they use. Students also proudly wore our logo shirts on their trip to COSI (Center of Science and Industry) in Columbus, Ohio. It’s inspiring to see such enthusiasm for learning in our community!

  • Steven Hulett, PharmD, MBA, has been named director of Specialty Pharmacy Services at UK King's Daughters. The Specialty Pharmacy helps patients optimize and manage their diagnoses, including those involving gastroenterology, infectious disease, rheumatology, dermatology and neurology. The service manages prescriptions for approximately 700 patients monthly. The Specialty Pharmacy started in 2020 and has grown as the service has proven to be invaluable to patients. Most medications from the Specialty Pharmacy are delivered to patients directly by courier, reducing the time between a prescription being written to the patient having it in their hands. Hulett is a 2019 graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he earned his Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration degrees. Upon graduation, Steven pursued a career at King’s Daughters, completing a one-year residency program. Almost immediately following, he began working to establish the Specialty Pharmacy. Hulett has also been instrumental in creating a centralized prior authorization service, and programs aimed at increasing access to specialty medications by reducing out-of-pocket expenses for patients. Hullet is a lifelong resident of Greenup County, where he resides with wife Allyson and their son Casey.

  • Phylicia Adams has been a nurse extern at UK King’s Daughters for three years. She started in the float pool, but quickly fell in love with the non-stop pace and adrenaline rush that comes with working in the Emergency Department. In her early career as nurse extern, Phylicia applied for the UK King’s Daughters tuition reimbursement program for team members. As a single mom, this helped to offset the costs of nursing school and she just graduated this May. Starting this month, Phylicia will continue her career with an ED fellowship. The fellowship allows her to transition from a nurse extern to a new nurse without feeling lost. Participants get classroom time where they review the things they learned in nursing school and apply it to real life situations in the ED. It ultimately makes them feel more comfortable about the skills that they learn, helping to make them a more successful nurse. “I wouldn’t choose anywhere else in the hospital to stay,” Phylicia said. “Our ED allows more opportunity for you to experience things and helped me to take what I was learning in nursing school and apply it in real life. We have fantastic nurses and providers that explain things and teach it to you so that you understand. It makes you a better student because it’s not just in your textbook and you see things first hand. I love the atmosphere and the people I work with. We work well as a team in big and little situations and we all have each other’s backs.” Our Emergency Department is growing, with our new building expected to open in 2025. • We are thrilled to celebrate the graduation of 12 nurse residents from UKKD’s nurse residency program. Their hard work and dedication have brought them to this milestone, and we couldn't be more excited for their future as they step into their roles as registered nurses. Our residency program, designed for RNs with 12 months or less experience, offers a comprehensive blend of professional development topics, hands-on learning, and mentorship. Guided by subject matter experts and supported by our state-of-the-art simulation lab, our residents have built the skills and relationships that will serve them throughout their nursing careers. We are also proud to share that our program is on the path to accreditation through the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP), underscoring our commitment to excellence in nursing education. A special shoutout to our fantastic graduates: Back row: Brett Barrett, Matt Whitt, Hailee Lemaster, Carolina Llanos, Emily Burger, Erica Hampton. Front row: Michael Arnett, Residency Coordinator Kristina Adkins, Residency Director Sasha Riley, Erin Hensley.
