Successfully accelerating AI initiatives hinges on effectively leveraging self-service technologies that experts can use daily across the corporate value chain. In addition to technical excellence, managers should keep those success factors in mind: 1. 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐇𝐘, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓. Focus on the purpose of the tool, not its features. Which specific problems should the tool help solving faster? 2. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧. UX/UI is key to boost user-acceptance. We all are inclined to use apps and software more often if it is visually appealing and intuitive. 3. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬. Each department has a handful of tools that everyone prefers. Use these front-ends as a foundation when implementing new solutions. 4. 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥. Identify and empower enthusiastic users that help others to adopt. Ownership must be in the business function. 5. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 = 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. Be very specific as to how the self-service technology should be integrated in the current business process landscape and define the interfaces and stakeholders. 6. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞-𝐨𝐫-𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭. Most business problems are not new. There is no need of reinventing readily available buy-solutions if they are a good fit. 7. 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. People are resistant to changing established habits or ingrained behaviors. Use gamification or other proven methods to encourage tool adoption. 8. 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 > 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. Encourage your teams to experiment with different tools, and utilize A/B testing to determine what truly works. We recently had the pleasure of hosting two distinguished speakers at our event, Nino Nicotra and Daniel Linke from Allianz Technology and Nico Wilhelm from ZF Group. 🎓 Friday adventures at #TUM, Part 1 ⚽ Germany beat Scotland 5 to 1... Only such a misanthropic person like me could have scheduled THE invited talk by E.ON Digital Technology at the inaugural day of Champions League in Munich! For the fifth time #data_on and personally Dr. Christian Essling and Sebastian Schwarz support a semester long collaboration with KI-Lab. We were invited again to partner with Luis Javier Carracedo Cordovilla from Zumtobel and give a talk at a seminar for "Data and Analytics in Applications". 📋 Missed two trains and caught one correct flight, Nora Schulz and me were standing in front of almost sixty students at the main campus of Technical University of Munich armed with a presentation for 30 minutes and two games to make our speech more interactive. Satesh Kumar was supporting us from London with his ideas and a presentation deck. We focused on the E.ON's environmental goals and showed how #digitalization can sustainably change the European energy landscape. One corner stone of this change is #democratization of access to #AI tools for employees where the E.ON GPT platform shines. The presentation gave insight into commercial success and scaling of E.ON #GPT as well as into technical details of the implemented #RAG architecture for the #LLM back-end. No surprise, but our talk about #GenAI and E.ON GPT in particular was a big success! We got several student requests to join #data_on as working student or spend several month at our topics for Master thesis. Milena Kryvenko helped us with her know how from the HR perspective. The talk continued informally with 🍕 and 🍻, and as usual hundreds of questions and vivid curiosity were our reward for sharing practical experience with our potential future colleagues. Dr. Deniz Preil and Roland Rodde (who almost got lost in dark corners of the TUM's tech building) empowered us in conversations with students. We have to thank to the orga team at TUM: Niklas Stepanek, Sebastian Junker, Benedikt Blümelhuber, and Charlotte Schöllkopf. You made it possible again! To be continued ... #data_on #welovetechnology
